You know it’s bad when even CNN runs a report critical of ACORN and Obama’s ties to them. This video is from a segment of Campbell Brown’s show, in which reporter Drew Griffin looks into thousands of fraudulent registrations in Lake County, Indiana. Even more surprisingly, the report explicitly describes some of the Obama campaign’s ties to ACORN:

In Pennsylvania, ACORN’s activities are so egregious that a former Pennsylvania Supreme Court justice has called into question the integrity of the balloting there:
A retired Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice says that she is "not confident we can get a fair election" in the state come November.
Justice Sandra Newman, accompanied by Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico and Pennsylvania Republican State Chairman Robert Gleason, expressed her concerns at a Harrisburg press conference this morning. A thick document replete with photo copies of phony registrations and aerial shots of vacant lots used as "addresses" for "voters" was handed out to journalists.
Gleason was even more explicit.
"Between March 23rd and October 1st, various groups, including ACORN, submitted over 252,595 registrations to the Philadelphia County Election Board" with 57, 435 rejected for faulty information. "Most of these registrations were submitted by ACORN, and rejected due to fake social security numbers, incorrect dates of birth, clearly fraudulent signatures, addresses that do not exist, and duplicate registrations. In one case, a man was registered to vote more than 15 times since the Primary election."

This is a serious problem. ACORN is under investigation in several states, all of them battleground states where the election will be decided. Even if they aren’t able to steal the election in one or more states, their activities are harming the credibility of the electoral process, regardless of who wins.
Of course, ACORN has a close working relationship with the Prophet Barack, as this McCain campaign video makes clear. ACORN has endorsed Obama, and everyone knows any fraud they abet won’t be for the benefit of McCain-Palin. Barack Obama has a vested interest in having as clean an election as possible. He should denounce ACORN today and demand they either clean up their act now, or cease operation.
Fat chance of that, however. Obama’s record from his Chicago days gives little hope that he’d do anything serious about corruption; while not engaging in corruption himself, he’s benefitted too often from those who do and has never done anything against them. Ever.
I hate to think we’re going to go through that mess we experienced in 2000 again, but, if this election is close, no matter who wins, we can expect a lot of rancor, suspicion, and accusations.
Just what we need.
UPDATE: Jennifer Rubin quotes a McCain campaign press release that provides a handy summary of Obama’s history with ACORN and their activities:
As of today, ACORN is under investigation for fraudulent activities in at least 11 key battleground states and accused of wrongdoing in many others. According to election officials across the country, about 50% of ACORN’s voter registrations are fictitious. This week alone, ACORN offices in Nevada were raided by state officials – after the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys appeared registered to vote in Las Vegas – and in Connecticut, a seven-year-old child registered to vote as a 27-year-old.
. . .
The relationship between Barack Obama and ACORN dates back to the early 1990s, well before the start of his political career. In 1992, Obama directed Project Vote – an arm of ACORN that also encouraged voter registration. Around the same time, Obama began teaching classes for “Future Leaders Identified by ACORN,” and according to an op-ed at the time, Obama continued his community organizing work largely through these classes.
Obama soon moved on from his role as a community organizer and became a trial attorney for ACORN. In 1995, Obama represented ACORN in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois for its supposed failure to implement a federal law designed to make voter registration easier, and thus increasing the likelihood of voter fraud. Obama also joined two well-known boards with strong ties to ACORN – the Woods Fund and the Joyce Foundation. Under Obama’s watch, the Chicago ACORN branch received thousands of dollars in grants from both organizations.
During this year’s Democrat primaries, Obama’s campaign paid $832,000 to Citizens Services, an ACORN-affiliated organization, for get-out-the-vote efforts. Sensing the need to distance itself from the controversial organization, however, Obama’s Federal Election Commission report mischaracterized this work as “staging and lighting.”
There’s no direct link to the statement, I’m afraid. But the evidence is indisputable: Obama has been closely involved with ACORN, both in their voter-registration efforts and their attempts to intimidate banks into issuing more sub-prime loans. The public must demand honesty from the Democratic nominee regarding his relationship with ACORN, and McCain should demand it of him at their next debate.
