Birthday wishes

Today is Osama bin Laden’s birthday: our favorite mass-murdering jihadist brave knight of Islam turns 52. Let’s hope he’s having wild time celebrating with some KY and his favorite goat. Meanwhile, Osama, buddy, dude … this is my wish for you:

President Madison would want President Obama to fail

Byron York quotes James Madison on why the Founders would oppose Barack Obama:

War against the Jews … in New York?

Two synagogues were entered by Muslims proclaiming jihad — in America.

On Monday, according to Yeshiva World News, an Arab man in his mid-30s entered Boro Park’s ‘Sephardish Shul’ and began making proclamations of jihad. Members of a Jewish volunteer security organization, the Shomrim, apprehended the threatening individual. They held him until police officers arrived at the scene, arresting the suspect. Detectives spoke with the "Middle Eastern man" at a station house near the synagogue.

Police officials reminded the community, "If you see something, say something." Security in Brooklyn’s heavily Jewish Boro Park area has been stepped up during the Purim holiday.

Just two days earlier, a man wielding a butcher’s knife burst into a Kerestir Chassidic synagogue in Williamsburg. He initially turned up unarmed and began throwing soda cans at the gathered worshipers, which hit one of them, and returned shortly thereafter with the bladed weapon.

The attacker was prevented from using the butcher’s knife on anyone by a young man, described as a "friend" of the knife-wielding intruder, who then fled together with him.

The article points out that the attacks occurred after a video posted to a jihadist web site singled out the headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, though no direct connection was claimed.

None’s really needed, however, since they were only following Muhammad’s example.

Islam’s animus toward the Jews didn’t start with Gaza, the West Bank, or Israel: it goes back to the founder of the faith, itself.

Time to admit it

The United States has long had to admit its sins of slavery, the shameful treatment of the tribal peoples, and the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. Germany for decades has been forced to confront what it did to the Jews 70 years ago. France has faced its demons in the form of French collaboration with the Nazis under the Vichy regime.

So shouldn’t the Turks just admit what they did to the Armenians? Call it "ethnic cleansing" or simply genocide, the government’s own papers show the truth:

For Turkey, the number should have been a bombshell.

According to a long-hidden document that belonged to the interior minister of the Ottoman Empire, 972,000 Ottoman Armenians disappeared from official population records from 1915 through 1916.

In Turkey, any discussion of what happened to the Ottoman Armenians can bring a storm of public outrage. But since its publication in a book in January, the number – and its Ottoman source – has gone virtually unmentioned. Newspapers hardly wrote about it. Television shows have not discussed it.

"Nothing," said Murat Bardakci, the Turkish author and columnist who compiled the book.

The silence can mean only one thing, he said: "My numbers are too high for ordinary people. Maybe people aren’t ready to talk about it yet."

It’s time to start. Both Armenians –the victims and their descendents– and the Turks themselves deserve it.
