Investigator who investigated Secret Service prostitution scandal caught with prostitute

Secret Service recruiter in action

Seriously, I think the irony meter just gave up and went home:

The investigator who led the Department of Homeland Security’s internal review of the Secret Service’s 2012 prostitution scandal quietly resigned in August after he was implicated in his own incident involving a prostitute, according to current and former department officials.

Sheriff’s deputies in Broward County, Fla., saw David Nieland, the investigator, entering and leaving a building they had under surveillance as part of a prostitution investigation, according to officials briefed on the investigation. They later interviewed a prostitute who identified Mr. Nieland in a photograph and said he had paid her for sex.

Mr. Nieland resigned after he refused to answer a series of questions from the Department of Homeland Security inspector general about the incident, the officials said.

A spokesman for the Homeland Security Department’s inspector general said in a statement that he could confirm only that Mr. Nieland resigned in August. But the spokesman added that department officials “became aware in early May of this year of an incident in Florida that involved one of our employees.”

Nieland was an investigator in the DHS Inspector General’s office and had been charged with examining how the Secret Service had handled its investigation of allegations that a White House volunteer on the trip had himself hired a call girl. (That guy, by the way, is now a policy adviser “Office on Global Women’s Issues” at State. Really.) Nieland had also alleged that he had been pressured to omit details from his report that would be embarrassing to the White House. Well, who’s embarrassed now?

Are there any adults left in D.C. at all?

Don’t answer that.

Harry Reid, Nanny-Stater of the month

March 2, 2011

Recently, US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was invited to speak before the Nevada legislature. What did he talk about? The national debt? America’s budget woes? Other issues of national import?

Nope. Nanny Reid devoted his time to a cause that must have left his listeners scratching their heads. In a state famous for its small-government libertarian attitudes, Harry Reid wins Reason.TV‘s coveted Nanny of the Month award for arguing for a ban on legalized prostitution:

Talk about a kill-joy! And what’s he got against a girl making a living, eh?

Seriously, regardless of what one thinks of prostitution*, this was hardly a topic a United States senator needed to scold his legislators for, although Harry does seem to enjoy scolding. Prostitution typically falls under a state’s police powers; the federal government has no role in this, other than preventing cross-border sex trafficking. But that’s not at issue here: Nevada allows counties to license brothels as they see fit.  Reid’s hectoring is simply another example of federal officials inserting their noses into places they don’t belong, trying to impose one-size fits all policies to social issues where there may be strong regional differences in opinion. It’s not only nannyish, it goes against our federal system of divided powers.

So, knock it off, Harry. Let Nevada handle its own problems, and you deal with the national issues your voters elected you to deal with.

*For the record, I favor decriminalizing prostitution both because it is a consensual act† between individuals that shouldn’t be government’s concern and because I support a broad private right to make a contract between adults, including sex in return for payment. I also think that many of the problems associated with prostitution (STDs, white slavery, pimping) would be eliminated or greatly lessened by decriminalization. And it would allow more law enforcement resources to be directed toward genuine sex crimes, such as child pornography and child prostitution.

†On the other hand, I don’t agree with the idea of the legalization of hard drugs, since I haven’t been convinced that the social costs would be outweighed by the gain in individual liberty. Yet another reason why I’ll never be a “Big L” libertarian.

Planned Parenthood gets the ACORN treatment

February 3, 2011

I knew this was going to happen.

When Andrew Breibart released Live Action’s video of a Planned Parenthood clinic manager in New Jersey abetting teenage prostitution and human trafficking, I had a feeling more was to come. It wasn’t Breitbart’s pattern to drop just one bomb; no, he fires an opening shot, lets the other guy react and make a mistake, and then hits him again and again until his position crumbles. In the case of Planned Parenthood, what happened to ACORN seems to be happening to Planned Parenthood:

  • Live Action’s initial video is released.
  • Planned Parenthood and their shills in the media cry hoax and selective editing. Then, realizing the video is damning, Planned Parenthood fires the manager and claims to be shocked at this violation of organization policies.
  • Then, the next video comes out, killing any defense that this was a localized occurrence.

Today Live Action released video of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Virginia abetting teenage prostitution and covering up the sexual abuse of minors:

From Lila Rose’s post at Big Government:

Our investigative team has just released the second undercover video revealing Planned Parenthood counseling a pimp on how to obtain secret abortions for his under age sex slaves, by bypassing Virginia parental consent laws meant to protect children. In the footage, taken January 12, 2011, undercover actors tell the Planned Parenthood worker that they are involved in sex work, and manage 14 and 15 year old girls, “some of them from out of state, out of country.” The Planned Parenthood staffer assures him it is confidential, that “we see people here from all walks of life,” and goes on to coach the pimp how to obtain secret abortions for his sex slaves by circumventing Virginia law that require parental consent for underage abortions.

Rose and Live Action have forwarded the Virginia video and documentation to Commonwealth and federal authorities, requesting an investigation. While I still doubt the Feds will get on this (at least, not until it’s so big that even Holder and Obama can ignore it), VA Attorney General Cuccinelli has shown himself to be an aggressive prosecutor. A crucial question will be whether the staff at this clinic reported the crime.

Beyond just Virginia, however, the fact that that the violations appear to occur in multiple states raises legitimate questions about the national Planned Parenthood operation, possibly exposing them to conspiracy and racketeering charges. Especially if, as I suspect, this isn’t the last video.

Planned Parenthood gets over $300,000,000 per year of our tax dollars, and at least some of it appears to be being used to fund illegal abortions for minors and to facilitate sex-slavery. As these videos show, it’s well past time for House Republicans to start asking some very serious questions — and to defund Planned Parenthood.

And the damage control begins

February 2, 2011

Planned Parenthood has fired the prostitution-abetting manager of the New Jersey clinic featured in yesterday’s post.

Let’s see if it does them any good.

Planned Parenthood abets teen prostitution?

February 1, 2011

Two years ago, Andrew Breitbart’s “Big” sites played a crucial role in bringing down ACORN by publicizing the willingness of several branch offices to facilitate teenage prostitution. The result was to turn ACORN politically radioactive and led to the cutoff of its federal funding.

Now, apparently, it’s the turn of Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry. In the following video, an investigative team lead by UCLA student Lila Rose exposes how a Planned Parenthood office was willing to cover for an abortion for a teenage hookers and even advised the “pimp” how he could keep his girls working in the trade after the procedure.

As Rose explains in her article:

Think about it. Where is a pimp going to send his victims if they get pregnant on the “job”? An abortion clinic, and preferably one that won’t ask any questions. What if those victims are young girls, kidnapped or drafted in from the US, or trafficked in from other nations? Planned Parenthood has demonstrated that they do not report abuse. They are experts at turning a blind eye and asking for “as little information as possible.

But would Planned Parenthood go as far as aiding and abetting the sex trafficking of underage girls?

This video reveals a top-level Planned Parenthood worker, the manager of Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey’s second largest clinic, making a secret deal with a pimp. Watch and listen as the Planned Parenthood manager, Amy Woodruff, advises the pimp how to make the trafficking of underage girls look “as legit as possible” (her words). Watch and listen as the manager advises the pimp how to ensure that his 14-year old victims of trafficking can still make money for him after secret abortions by performing sex acts “waist up” (her idea). Watch as she advises the pimp to instruct his girls to lie on the paper work about their ages, and identify themselves as “students” to get cheaper contraception and avoid mandatory reporting laws.

Be sure to read the whole thing.

Rose demands a federal investigation of Planned Parenthood and calls on Congress to cut off their funding. While difficult to imagine, given the abortion industry’s strong support for the Democrats, don’t forget that it was a Democratic congress that felt forced to defund ACORN, no matter how temporary they tried to make it. With the Republicans now in charge of the House and a shaky Democratic majority in the Senate, Planned Parenthood’s portion of our tax dollars (and of those borrowed from China) is likely in grave danger.

As for a federal investigation, don’t expect it from Obama’s DoJ. But a Republican-chaired House committee should be able to throw a lot of light into corners Planned Parenthood would rather keep hidden. Given the documentary evidence Rose and Life Dynamics have compiled, Planned Parenthood will have a hard time arguing that the problem is just “one rogue clinic.”

Regardless of what one believes concerning the politics of abortion, polls show most Americans are opposed to federally funding it. (Planned Parenthood says otherwise.)  After this revelation, they may also come to oppose providing tax dollars for abortion counseling — or career counseling for teen prostitutes and their pimps.

Winner, “Hypocrite of the Year”

June 8, 2010

Okay, okay. There’s a lot of competition for this award, especially in politics and celebrity circles, but this has got to be one of the finalists:

Bill Clinton calls Louisiana senator ‘sinner’ in fundraising letter

Former President Clinton has sent out a fundraising letter on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee under his own name warning that Republicans are trying to “derail’ President Obama’s agenda.

Not much unexpected there.

But along with the letter, Clinton has included a flyer from the DSCC that’s bound to raise eyebrows.

“DSCC funds go towards efforts to unseat far-right Republican senators like admitted sinner David Vitter…” the flyer says, referring to the Louisiana senator who admitted patronizing a prostitution service when he was in the House.

Bill Clinton decrying someone else for being a sinner? Bill “Blue dress” Clinton? William Jefferson “I did not have sex with that woman” Clinton?? What was the DSCC thinking?

Someone check the exchanges, because I think he just cornered the market on brass.

What’s next? Eliot Spitzer denouncing someone for the sin of lust? John Edwards lecturing on fidelity? Barack Obama on not blaming others? Wait. Scratch that last one

Wow.

FAA spends five million on hookers and booze

December 23, 2009

But, don’t worry. It was all part of their training, to make sure they were on the same page. Or something:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spent five million dollars this month to bring 3, 600 managers to a conference in Atlanta that FAA whistleblowers and critics say was little more than an excuse to throw a three-week-long Christmas party.

“It’s the wrong time to spend five million dollars on a Christmas party for anybody’s employees, especially in the government,” said Tom Schatz, the president of Citizens Against Government Waste, a non-profit watchdog group.

Undercover video to be broadcast tonight on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer shows FAA managers drinking heavily and making the rounds of Atlanta bars after a day of meetings.

One FAA manager told an ABC News undercover reporter, “Anytime you get a bunch of FAA guys together, it is nothing but a party.” Another said, “It beats being at work.”

The FAA says the purpose of the December meetings was to train managers on the new contract for air traffic controllers that went into effect on Oct. 1.

“This is worth it because we have to get the frontline managers on-board with what we’re trying to do,” said Hank Krakowski, the chief operating officer of the FAA’s Air Traffic Operations.

The FAA managers received $81 per day to spend on meals and personal expenses. The hotel room cost was $140 per night.

At the end of one day of meetings, an FAA manager said he and others were about to head out “to dance on tables shortly.” He boasted he was “almost arrested” for being drunk and “dancing on the tables” at the last such FAA managers gathering in St. Louis in 2006.

Another conference attendee asked a female ABC News undercover reporter if she was a “hooker” because “I was ready to reach for my wallet.”

Obviously, I went to work for the wrong employer. The best we get is a plate of cookies; the FAA gets a “spread the wealth” program for call-girls.

And, gee, do you think this will play well with a public already angry at a vastly expanding and expensive federal bureaucracy, in which jobs and salaries are skyrocketing during a severe recession?

Yeah. Me, too.  I dont know
