And speaking of hypocrites

June 17, 2008

Did you know that The Goracle’s home, that inner sanctum environmental salvation, uses 10% more energy than it did last year?

In the year since Al Gore took steps to make his home more energy-efficient, the former Vice President’s home energy use surged more than 10%, according to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research.

“A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. “Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption.”

In the past year, Gore’s home burned through 213,210 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 232 average American households for a month.

In February 2007, An Inconvenient Truth, a film based on a climate change speech developed by Gore, won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. The next day, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research uncovered that Gore’s Nashville home guzzled 20 times more electricity than the average American household.

After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s massive home energy use, the former Vice President scurried to make his home more energy-efficient. Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul.

Since taking steps to make his home more environmentally-friendly last June, Gore devours an average of 17,768 kWh per month –1,638 kWh more energy per month than before the renovations – at a cost of $16,533. By comparison, the average American household consumes 11,040 kWh in an entire year, according to the Energy Information Administration.

But don’t worry about how His Greenness can afford all that power: since becoming the leader of the Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming, the Keeper of the Holy Carbon Credit has made over $100,000,000 from speaking fees and investments in “green” businesses — including the one that sells him his carbon credits.

I don’t know how he holds up under the burden.

Bless our Prius, O Goracle!

By the way, Al, George Bush’s home in Crawford uses far less energy than yours. How’s that for an inconvenient truth?

What a shock!

Al Gore has endorsed Barack Obama.

Former Vice President Al Gore made his debut appearance in the presidential campaign here Monday evening, offering a vigorous endorsement of Senator Barack Obama and urging Democrats to keep in mind the consequences of not taking the general election with grave seriousness.

“Looking back over the last eight years, I can tell you that we have already learned one important fact since the year 2000,” Mr. Gore said. “Take it from me, elections matter. If you think the next appointments to the Supreme Court are important, you know that elections matter.”

Mr. Gore and Mr. Obama strode onto the stage arm in arm to thundering applause from a crowd of nearly 20,000 people at a downtown arena. As Mr. Gore ticked through a long list of challenges facing the nation, he hailed Mr. Obama as “clearly the candidate best able to solve these problems and bring change to America.”

Man, you could knock me over with a feather — I never saw this one coming. The Goracle has come down from the Mountain (well, his energy-sucking mansion) to bless the Prophet of the New, Post-Racial Politics, the Harbinger of Hope, Change, and Waffles. Let the bells peel, let the doves take wing, and let us bow our heads in humble awe:

And what’s this garbage about being a "problem solver?" Please name me what problems and what leadership role Obama has taken in Washington? Aside from co-sponsoring Coburn-Obama, he’s been running for president for the last two years, and he’s been in the Senate for less than four! He consistently takes the left-most positions on issues before the Senate and has shown almost no predilection for reaching across the aisle to "solve problems." (Unlike, say, the other guy.) When he was an Illinois state senator, he voted "present" over 100 times, taking no stand whatsoever. How does that solve problems, O Goracle? The major bills for which he gets credit there were handed to him by his patron, State Senate President Emil Jones, after the major work had been done by others. That’s leadership?

You could fool me. Not talking
