Obama and the Democratic Socialists of America

Behold the Hexagon of Progress!

That’s the eye-grabber for an article -the first in a series- at Big Government that will explore the connections between President Obama and the intertwined radical Left groups depicted above, and all tracing back to the Democratic Socialists of America, which is itself an affiliate of the Socialist International. I’ve written before about Obama’s possible membership in and almost-certain close relationship with the New Party. I said then that I was wary of describing him as a Socialist; I still am, but the course of his presidency so far and his background as examined in the Big Government article make it hard to say he isn’t at least sympathetic toward the strong statism favored by socialist groups.

(For the record, I think Obama is more precisely a strong progressive like Wilson and FDR, or perhaps even a corporatist in the style of Mussolini, than he is a socialist. He doesn’t require state ownership of businesses, just that they tow the line and support government policy – in other words, Liberal Fascism)

In any event, be sure to read the article and keep an eye out for the rest of the series.  Once again, It’s up to citizen-journalists to do the work the mainstream media refused to do during the last election campaign.

Yeah, but he beats the alternative, which was National Socialism, aka conservative fascism. With our economic crisis, as was the case in the 30s, the only way to ease the pain is through government interaction and programs to create jobs. That’s what we’re stuck until the economy recovers… if it recovers. Our country is saddled with so much debt, due to Reagan’s and Bush’s tax cuts, that we may still head into a depression.

Hoffman falls for what our bad educational system has taught him. FDR’s concept prolonged the depression because he, like Obama, sought more than just jump starting the economy. He got in the way and destroyed the natural cycle of recovery,as Obama is doing. Whether they are doing for power and control, or truly believe this is the most efficient way to run a nation, they are wrong.

Human nature is human nature and if you punish a behavior, they will change it. So if you tax a man for making money, or in Obama’s case he believes too much money, the man will quit making it or find a way to hide it. Obama is striking out in a global fashion, as are others, to try and dry up the tax shelters. Good luck on that. People with wealth will find a place to hide it.

Reagan’s tax cuts increased money coming into the treasury. But, and here’s where Hoffman and the rest really need to follow the bouncing ball, the government continued to spend beyond the need to spend. There are two sides to a budget, income and expenses, at any time the government could have cut the latter but then how would all the politicians bribe people to vote for them??

As for GWB, you’ll get no argument from me about his theory of “compassionate conservatism” or his spending. But in his defense he was struck with two events he could not control- 9/11 and a democratic Congress willing to exploit it. I believe somewhere in the bowels of the WH and Congress a deal was made between the two. If the dems got out of the way in Bush’s “war on terror” (and they did) he would not look too hard at their egregious spending. Had the Dems been of a sound heart and conscience they would have not done a tenth of what they did in the last eight years.

Don’t always blame the President without looking around first. In FDR’s case he believed he could run the country better than its people. Obama’s case is worse, he may think that, but not from a progressive person’s point of view, but more a messianic self view (his backers are looking to rob the treasury and tax people blind- different agendas), Reagan didn’t like government and did what he could to limit it against a Congress that disagreed. GWB had a theory, just a bad one, and an act of terror that fundamentally changed his worldview. (I know people in the WH and this is very true. GWB was a good man. Not an idiot, not a megalomaniac, not a man who felt destiny had led him there, just a nice guy with an idea that didn’t work and a Congress which had no soul. He set his sights on what he could affect- no more attacks. For that he should be given his due.)
