This is the worst scientific scandal of our generation

An excellent summary in The Telegraph of what happened in ClimateGate and why it’s significant. The money quote:

Our hopelessly compromised scientific establishment cannot be allowed to get away with a whitewash of what has become the greatest scientific scandal of our age.

If it really is a religion, then it doesn’t matter what the facts may be. The counterpoint to all these charges from the other side seems to be “this is no big deal, just ignore them.”

I’ve been reminded of the “pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” scene in Wizard of Oz. Trouble is, that little dog keeps ripping the curtain back every time alarmist scientists try to pull it shut.

This is an example of turning evidence towards a conclusion that fits an agenda. In this case, “it’s all about the money!” It is, and has always been about the cash. A proper way to prove or disprove climate change was using this method.

This is commonly called the “white swan” theory of science and worth reading. I’m no scientist but this is the way I was taught in school. You make your best guess as to why or what is happening, and then try to disprove yourself. The more your theory holds up, the stronger it gets. It never becomes a law except in a few cases. (Gravity, etc.) You accept, with humility, that you could be found wrong tomorrow.
