Palin’s nightstick lands on the Ewoks
August 18, 2010From her Facebook page, at the end of a series of endorsements of female candidates in honor of the 90th anniversary of the 19th amendment and in response to a bizarre attack by Emily’s List.
Boom.
On this anniversary of women’s suffrage, let’s take a moment to be grateful for the diversity of the debate. Women don’t walk in lockstep with each other in politics, any more than men do. We should be proud of our ability to engage in a civil discussion and healthy debate. I know I am. Unfortunately, I’ve recently come under attack for speaking up for sisters who seek to serve in public office. The sad part is that the attack comes from other sisters who happen to be on the other side of an issue that has been of great importance to American women from the time of our feminist foremothers, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, down to today. I’m speaking of the issue of life. I feel compelled to offer some advice to our sisters who like to throw stones at those of us who respectfully disagree with them on this issue (and they sometimes refuse to even countenance the fact that some of us can call ourselves feminists and disagree with those who claim the mantle of “real feminists”). First, ladies, it’s hard to take a critic seriously when they lecture you wearing a bear suit. So, it’s difficult for me to drum up much outrage at this latest ad. But, really, lying about a sister while wearing an Ewok outfit is no way to honor our foremothers on the eve of the 90th anniversary of their victory. But, that aside, I’d love to know where you got those get-ups. Halloween is just around the corner, and Piper and Trig would look adorable as little grizzly bears.
Ouch!
This just in: Dissent is no longer patriotic
August 18, 2010I’m beginning to think Jonah Goldberg will have to add a new chapter or two to the next edition of his brilliant Liberal Fascism, just to cover Nancy Pelosi. In the wake of increasing opposition to the construction of a mega-mosque at Ground Zero, La Nancita has suggested that opponents should be placed under federal investigation!
“The freedom of religion is a Constitutional right. Where a place of worship is located is a local decision.
“I support the statement made by the Interfaith Alliance that ‘We agree with the ADL that there is a need for transparency about who is funding the effort to build this Islamic center. At the same time, we should also ask who is funding the attacks against the construction of the center.’
Wait a gosh-darned minute, here! Critics of the mosque are getting funded? Where’s my check? Jeez…
And does that mean you want to investigate Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to find out who’s funding him, Madame Speaker of the House?
Shall the Congress also investigate the two-thirds of New York City residents who also oppose the mosque? Or the nearly 70% of the nation?
Nothing like threatening a federal investigation of those making use of their right to free speech to reveal your inner statist, eh, Nancy?
Joe McCarthy would be proud.

UPDATE: Say, Madame Speaker: Since we’re in an investigating mood, how about we investigate that little land deal you and San Francisco Mayor Newsom have got going for Treasure Island? Should be real interesting…
Let’s see, whom should I take seriously?
August 18, 2010The mendacious video below from the liberal pro-abortion* group Emily’s List attacking Sarah Palin has been making the rounds of the blogosphere the last few days. I haven’t much to say about it that already hasn’t been said by Ace, Ed Morrissey, and William Jacobson. So, instead, I’ll leave you with a question. But first, watch the video:
Okay, now that you’re done laughing in disbelief, watch this video from the woman they attacked:
So, here’s the question: On matters of national politics and policy, whom do you take more seriously? A Sarah Palin talking with gravity about empowering women to deal responsibly with the problems facing the nation, or a bunch of women dressed like … a dating service for furries?

*(You know, as in favoring the killing of human beings before they’re born.)
