The church crumbles! The Goracle wrong?? Aaiiee!!

December 4, 2009

The Cult of Anthropogenic Global Warming was rocked yet again yesterday. From out of the Netherlands came news that the glaciers of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the melting of which Al Gore used as an iconic symbol of the dangers posed by man-caused climate change, melt and form due to a natural cycle:

Newspapers and news sites in the Netherlands today extensively broke the news of the findings of a research team led by Professor Jaap Sinninghe Damste — a leading molecular paleontologist at Utrecht University and winner of the prestigious Spinoza Prize — about the melting icecap of the Kilimanjaro, the African mountain that became a symbol of anthropogenic global warming.

Professor Sinninghe Damste’s research, as discussed on the site of the Dutch Organization of Scientific Research (DOSR) — a governmental body — shows that the icecap of Kilimanjaro was not the result of cold air but of large amounts of precipitation which fell at the beginning of the Holocene period, about 11,000 years ago.

The melting and freezing of moisture on top of Kilimanjaro appears to be part of  “a natural process of dry and wet periods.” The present melting is not the result of “environmental damage caused by man.”

Professor Damste studied organic biomarker molecules in the sediment record of Lake Challa, near Mount Kilimanjaro, and reconstructed the changes and intensity of precipitation in this part of Africa over the last 25,000 years. They observed an 11,500 year cycle of intense monsoon precipitation.

In the dry period between 12,800 and 11,500 years ago, Kilimanjaro was ice-free.

Uh-oh. It seems Kilimanjaro’s glaciation is driven by the Sun, not those nasty greenhouse gases. Arriving on the heels of the scandal involving scientific fraud at one of the centers of climate-alarmist advocacy, this has to make all but the most die-hard Gaea-worshiper question whether they’ve been had in the biggest con-job since Nixon said “I am not a crook.”

I mean, what are all those people who hang on the Goracle’s every word to do?

I know, I know.The science is settled.

Have faith.  Praying

Al Gore, scientific illiterate

November 17, 2009

Why does anyone take Al Gore seriously on global warming, or any matter involving science? The guy’s ignorant. Check out this howler. Thirty seconds of searching on the Internet found the correct information.

Again, I ask: Why does anyone lend this bombastic fool any credence whatsoever?

Because anthropogenic global warming is a religion, not a science, and the Goracle is its chief priest.

Don't let facts disturb your faith

Facts defy the Goracle

November 15, 2009

Don’t they realize the science is settled? Why bother to continue research and ask “if” when the Inconvenient Truth requires us to ACT NOW?

Maybe its because, if we do, we’ll find the real truth: that anthropogenic global warming is a gigantic fraud.

Controversial new climate change results

New data show that the balance between the airborne and the absorbed fraction of carbon dioxide has stayed approximately constant since 1850, despite emissions of carbon dioxide having risen from about 2 billion tons a year in 1850 to 35 billion tons a year now.

This suggests that terrestrial ecosystems and the oceans have a much greater capacity to absorb CO2 than had been previously expected.

The results run contrary to a significant body of recent research which expects that the capacity of terrestrial ecosystems and the oceans to absorb CO2 should start to diminish as CO2 emissions increase, letting greenhouse gas levels skyrocket. Dr Wolfgang Knorr at the University of Bristol found that in fact the trend in the airborne fraction since 1850 has only been 0.7 ± 1.4% per decade, which is essentially zero.

The strength of the new study, published online in Geophysical Research Letters, is that it rests solely on measurements and statistical data, including historical records extracted from Antarctic ice, and does not rely on computations with complex climate models.

I emphasized that last part because it’s important: the results from Bristol are based on empirical observation and the geologic record, not computer models that are by nature limited to the assumptions humans program into them, assumptions that have been shown to be fundamentally flawed.

The central argument of the theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is that Man is pumping so much CO2 into the atmosphere that the the Earth’s ecosystem cannot absorb it all, and thus the excess is leading to dangerous temperature increases that will have catastrophic effects. The findings of Dr. Knorr, if they hold up to testing and replication, destroy the foundation of the AGW argument. If indeed there is no measurable excess of CO2 in the atmosphere, then there is no basis for the feared greenhouse effect. Thus the frantic effort to get the United States and other countries to hobble their economies in the name of “fighting climate change” is at best a Chicken Little moment of hysteria among true believers or, at worst, a mask behind which to hide the real statist agenda of extending government control over every aspect of our lives.

And they have to do it before the inconvenient facts wreck their Holy Truth.

sun

At Heliogenic Climate Change, James Marusek, a retired USN physicist, discusses the continuing lack of sunspot activity and what it may portend for Earth’s climate:

So what does this all mean? Well, the sun’s interplanetary magnetic field has fallen to around 4 nT (nano Tesla) from a typical value of 6 to 8 nT. The solar winds pressure is down to 50 year lows. And the heliospheric current sheet is flattening. All these changes allow high-energy galactic cosmic rays to penetrate deeper into our solar system. In 2009, cosmic ray intensities have increased 19% beyond anything we’ve seen in the past 50 years, when satellite measurements began. Greater numbers of galactic cosmic rays driving deep into our atmosphere cause greater cloud formation (through ionization) which then results in decreasing surface temperature on Earth. This is because low level clouds reflect sunlight back into space. This is why Northern and Southern hemispheres have experienced unusually cold winters during the past couple years. The influence of the sun’s magnetic field is a force to be reckoned with in natural climate change.

Sorry, O Goracle.

The Goracle, Chief Priest of the Cult of Anthropogenic Global Warming

I’ve often referred to the more enthusiastic proponents of the supposed dangers of man-made climate change as the Cult of Anthropogenic Global Warming, because, well, it seems more a matter of faith with them than anything based on empirical science.

I was ahead of my time.

Climate change belief given same legal status as religion

An executive has won the right to sue his employer on the basis that he was unfairly dismissed for his green views after a judge ruled that environmentalism had the same weight in law as religious and philosophical beliefs.

In a landmark ruling, Mr Justice Michael Burton said that “a belief in man-made climate change … is capable, if genuinely held, of being a philosophical belief for the purpose of the 2003 Religion and Belief Regulations”.

The ruling could open the door for employees to sue their companies for failing to account for their green lifestyles, such as providing recycling facilities or offering low-carbon travel.

The decision regards Tim Nicholson, former head of sustainability at property firm Grainger plc, who claims he was made redundant in July 2008 due to his “philosophical belief about climate change and the environment”.

In March, employment judge David Heath gave Mr Nicholson permission to take the firm to tribunal over his treatment.

But Grainger challenged the ruling on the grounds that green views were political and based on science, as opposed to religious or philosophical in nature.

John Bowers QC, representing Grainger, had argued that adherence to climate change theory was “a scientific view rather than a philosophical one”, because “philosophy deals with matters that are not capable of scientific proof.”

That argument has now been dismissed by Mr Justice Burton, who last year ruled that the environmental documentary An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore was political and partisan.

The decision allows the tribunal to go ahead, but more importantly sets a precedent for how environmental beliefs are regarded in English law.

No kidding. Next step, a Law Against Green Heresy! No burning at the stake, however. Too big a carbon footprint….  Silly

Good advice

July 30, 2009

From Victor Davis Hanson, some words of wisdom for America’s elite hypocrites:

Do the wealthy and the powerful lecture us about our wrongs because they know their own insider status ensures that they are exempt from the harsh medicine they advocate for others? Millionaire Gore is not much affected by higher taxes for his cap-and-trade crusade.

Or does the hypocrisy grow out of a sort of class snobbery? Do elites hector the crass middle class because it lacks their own taste, rare insight, and privileged style? Judging from the police report, Gates seemed flabbergasted that the white Cambridge cop did not know who he was “messing” with.

Or is the new hypocrisy an eerie sort of psychological compensation at work? Perhaps the more Al Gore rails about carbon emissions, the more he can without guilt enjoy what emits them. The more Professor Gates can cite racism, the more he himself is paid to spot it. And the more a Tom Daschle wants to tax and spend for health care, the less badly he feels about his own chauffer and tax avoidance?

Here’s a little advice for all of America’s aristocratic critics: a little less hypocrisy, a little more appreciation of your good lives — and then maybe the rest of us will listen to you a little more.

Read the whole thing. Applause
