“We’re not really people to them.”

March 3, 2012

Jim Geraghty on what the Left’s reaction to the death of Andrew Breitbart reveals about them:

I had observed, yesterday, that there were not merely a handful of folks on the left sneering about how happy they were that Breitbart had suddenly died. There were gobs and gobs of them, all over Twitter and the web at large. If you need examples, Charlie Spiering collected plenty here, though I’d urge most of sound mind to avoid putting themselves through reading that.

You can call this whatever you like — the Daily-Kos-ification of the Left, perhaps — but it confirms what many of us suspected and/or feared. I didn’t want to believe it, really. I personally know too many people I’d identify as Democrats, if not liberals, who are too decent to ever express such raw hate and cruelty. But a large chunk of the rank and file of the Left — way more than a small percentage — really don’t believe that their opponents deserve anything resembling basic human dignity or respect.

We’re not really people to them. It’s not an accident that [a] New York Times columnist referred to his critics on Twitter as “right-wing lice.” They’re not good, decent Americans who just have some different ideas about how to make the world a better place. They run on hate. It appears their entire sense of self-worth is driven by demonizing those who disagree with them and celebrating their political viewpoints as the cardinal measurements of virtue and good character. They are positively energized by the thought of lashing out at those of us who have the audacity to think differently than they. They really do project and accuse the opposition of all their worst traits: rage, closed-mindedness, cruelty, intolerance, bigotry, and an inability to empathize with others. And they completely lack self-awareness. They are blind to the irony of their actions. As someone said on Twitter today (I can’t find the comment now), “How many of the people celebrating Andrew’s death have a ‘NO H8? icon on their avatar?”

Time and again we see this violent emotional reaction whenever someone challenges left-liberals’ own (self-assumed) wisdom and moral superiority. Call it a “fascist mentality,” “immaturity,” or even a simple lack of decency, but an inability of so many in their camp to deal reasonably with those who disagree is a sign of something very wrong deep-down, something innate in the progressive philosophy that affects thought and behavior.

It’s disturbing.

In Memoriam, Andrew Breitbart (1969-2012)

March 1, 2012

I’ve just seen the news and, to say the least, I’m shocked. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Apparently Breitbart collapsed outside his home last night and was rushed to UCLA, where he died.

Andrew’s death is also a great loss for the Right and the cause of liberty in this country. I had never met him, but I’d come to admire his work exposing the hypocrisy of the liberal-left and the pernicious effect of the Left’s hold over our culture.  Most of all, I admired his fearlessness and willingness to fight back. His value to the Tea Party movement is almost incalculable. Sometimes he might go a bit too far or over the top, but often –far more often than not– he and the exposes his sites published were right on the mark. Their influence over the last few years has been enormous. Just ask ACORN.

You were and are inspirational, Andrew. Rest in peace.

UPDATE: And if you ever wanted an example of the immaturity, churlishness, and flat-out rot that lurks in the heart of the American Left, here ya go.

Weinergate: this dog is burned and done

June 6, 2011

Oh, my. Would it be inappropriate to begin a resignation countdown? What’s the over-under? 48 hours?

A new woman has come forward with what she claims are photographs, chats, and emails with Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY). These appear to undermine severely Rep. Weiner’s explanations that he was the victim of  a “prank” or a “hack.”

The detailed new information suggests that the Brooklyn- and Queens-based representative and the young woman in question were involved in an online, consensual relationship involving the mutual exchange of intimate photographs.

BigGovernment.com and BigJournalism.com were approached regarding this information more than a week prior to the separate, independent event of Friday, May 27, 2011, when a link to the now-infamous “gray underwear” photograph appeared publicly on Rep. Weiner’s Twitter feed.

We will be updating BigGovernment.com and BigJournalism.com throughout the day with photographs, timelines, and other clarifying details. However, we will not be releasing all of the material because some of it is of an extreme, graphic nature.

Breitbart nukes the NAACP – updated

July 19, 2010

Really, after the way Andrew Breitbart and his allies exposed ACORN, you’d think other elements of the progressive political-media complex would be wary of drawing his ire; the man is a political alley-fighter who takes no prisoners. But, no, the NAACP just wouldn’t learn, so they waved a red race card in his face by slandering the Tea Party movements with the accusation last week that they harbor racists and the implication that they are, at heart, a racist movement.

Bad idea. Just before the NAACP vote, Breitbart fired a warning shot:

“Let me say something a tad newsworthy to the president of the NAACP. You can go to  hell. You are manufacturing this in a summer in which the economy is the number one issue effecting blacks and whites in this country. This country can ill-afford the schism of race to be exploited the way you are based on the false premise of the tea party being racist. I have tapes…tape of racism and it’s an NAACP dinner. You want to play with fire? I have evidence of racism and it’s coming from the NAACP. This is absolutely manufactured for political gain…

But the NAACP issued their resolution, anyway.

Now Breitbart has posted two of the videos at his Big Government site. You can follow the link to view them and read more background, but I want to quote one portion:

This is why the Democratic Party is scared. This is why the NAACP is scared. This is why black conservatives, previously marginalized as “Uncle Toms” by these progressive bullies, and shamefully, the NAACP, are coming out of the woodwork to join and, in many cases, lead the Tea Party movement.

The emerging Tea Party nation understands that the media has focused on the manufactured racial schism while intentionally ignoring the schism between free market thinkers and government expansionists, that the latter of which is brazen in its desire to transform America into a European-model welfare state with a healthy dose of socialism.

It’s unfortunate that the NAACP’s recent resolution and false accusations have forced us to show you video 1 when video 2 is the bigger problem. That’s not to say video 1 is not a problem, but this country can ill afford, in this time of economic peril, to waste our time poking and prodding at the racial hornet’s nest that was supposed to have been removed with this post-racial presidency. But now President Obama and the modern-day Democrat party reveal they are anything but post-racial.

And I suspect these aren’t the only videos he has.

It’s sad to see how a storied civil-rights organization with a genuinely admirable past has allowed itself to become nothing more than the race-card playing attack dog of a single political party, particularly as that party has such a dirty history regarding African-Americans.

It will be interesting to see if the NAACP or its allies try to slander Breitbart himself with accusations of racism. Let’s just say I don’t think he’s out of ammunition and I would not advise the NAACP to test him on this.

RELATED: Many African-American conservatives have posted to Big Government to denounce the NAACP and its Tea Party resolution. The latest is Lieutenant Colonel Allen West, a candidate for the Republican nomination to Congress in Florida’s 22nd district. He minces no words, calling the NAACP the “useful idiots of liberal racism.”

Ouch!  Feeling beat up

LINKS: My esteemed co-blogger was thinking along the same lines. (In fact, we both posted at her place on the same topic at the same time, so I withdrew my post there. In case you’re wondering where the cross-post went…)

UPDATE: I’ll say this, Breitbart gets results. Less than 24 hours after he broke the story, the Department of Agriculture official featured in the videos, Shirley Sherrod, has resigned. The NAACP has issued a statement condemning her bigotry. Color me cynical, but I suspect it was issued as defensive cover after being criticized over their Tea Party resolution, rather than from any sincere disavowal of Sherrod’s statements.

UPDATE II: Looks like the shoe is on the other foot, as a viewing of the full video shows Ms. Sherrod’s statement to be anything but racist. It’s no doubt a major black eye for Breitbart, who looks to have been snookered by an edited tape in his eagerness to smack the NAACP. I’m sure he’ll do the right thing and apologize to Ms. Sherrod, as I do for whatever small part I played with this post. (Now, will the Obama Administration give her her job back?) Meanwhile, I stand by my comments about the state of the NAACP, its Tea Party resolution, and its role acting as an attack dog for the Democratic Party. You can view the full video with further comments courtesy of my esteemed co-blogger.

And now, Big Peace

July 4, 2010

Andrew Breitbart has shaken up the Internet and the mainstream media and government elites with his family of “Big” sites: Big Hollywood, focusing on entertainment and culture; Big Journalism, which turns a spotlight on the news media itself; and Big Government, which keeps tabs on the doings of our national government. Each is a group blog, in which various writers offer opinions from an unvarnished and unashamed Center-Right, pro-American point of view.

And they’ve had their effects in the broader world: from revealing the Obama Administration’s attempts to turn the National Endowment for the Arts into a propaganda organ, to exposing the criminal nature of ACORN and the perverse agenda of the administration’s “safe schools” czar, the Big sites have provided conservatives with some heavy artillery in the battle over our nation’s direction.

And now comes the fourth site, Big Peace, dedicated to national security issues and peace through strength (something dear to my heart).  As editor-in-chief Peter Schweizer explains:

We are launching Big Peace on the 4th of July because we happen to believe that America is the last and best hope for mankind.

We are launching Big Peace on the 4th of July because we believe that freedom is an essential ingredient and condition for peace.

We are lauching Big Peace on the 4th of July because the American spirit of independence and fight,  exhibited by our soldiers, is what ultimately keeps us safe.

And we are launching Big Peace on the 4th of July to celebrate the ideas of freedom and liberty, which are embraced by so many others around the world.  The word “peace” has been hijacked by those who don’t believe in peace, but rather believe in appeasement.  We intend to take it back.  Peace comes from strength.  Peace comes from freedom.  More people were killed in the 20th century by their own governments than due to any war.  Peace is a word devoid of meaning unless it includes liberty.

There’s a story about a guy who goes into a bar and when the fists and chairs start flying asks, “Is this a private fight, or can anyone join?”

When it comes to protecting freedom around the world and keeping America strong–it’s not a private fight.

Be sure to add Big Peace to your bookmarks and feed readers.

Grinding the ACORN

November 23, 2009

Oh, dear. It looks like Breitbart isn’t done beating ACORN like a redheaded stepchild. This time, they’ve been caught dumping thousands of sensitive documents ahead of a possible investigation by the California Attorney-General’s office:

On October 1st, 2009 California Attorney General Jerry Brown announced that an investigation had been opened into ACORN’s activities in California, resulting from undercover videos showing employees seemingly offering to assist the undercover film makers with human smuggling, child prostitution and even tax advice to boot.

Although ACORN has denied any wrongdoing, some of the employees involved were terminated, and ACORN has publicly stated that they would fully cooperate with any investigations that followed.

(…)

Shockingly, we now learn that the ACORN office in National City (San Diego County) engaged in a massive document dump on the evening of October 9th, containing thousands upon thousands of sensitive documents, just days prior to the Attorney General’s visit.

BigGovernment.com has learned that not only did this document dump occur, but the documents in question were irresponsibly and brazenly dumped in a public dumpster, without considering laws and regulations as to how sensitive information should be treated.

(…)

Documents shared with BigGovernment.com include information exposing not only the inner workings of ACORN in California, but also personal, sensitive information belonging to employees, members and clients of ACORN. ACORN and its few remaining defenders insist that the “good” ACORN provides outweighs the transgressions exposed in the recent undercover video sting. But, ACORN’s massive dumping of these documents and the cavalier manner in which it betrayed the trust of its supporters betrays that talking point. (Unlike ACORN, we have redacted sensitive and personal information.)

ACORN’s political agenda is also exposed, with thousands upon thousands of documents revealing the depth of the political machine that is ACORN, and its disturbing ties to not only public employee labor unions but some of the most radical leftist organizations.

Read the whole thing. You’d think they’d at least have learned from Enron to shred the documents they’re illegally disposing of. That they didn’t means this promises to be another bad week for ACORN and its allies, which in turn means more entertainment for us.

Pass the popcorn.

Breitbart torpedoes ACORN again

October 21, 2009

Right below the waterline. Undercover journalists James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles suckered the ACORN office in Philadelphia with a story about wanting to set up a house of prostitution and import underage Salvadoran girls to work it. When earlier ACORN prostitution scandals broke out, officials and defenders of the organization loudly claimed that O’Keefe and Giles had been kicked out of the Philly office and that they had been refused help for their criminal scheme. Well… judge for yourself:

Note: I’ve been told the audio is blanked when the ACORN employees are speaking because of Pennsylvania wiretap laws. This sets up an interesting dilemma: ACORN is sure to deny they did anything wrong, so Breitbart, O’Keefe, and Giles can counter by saying “Fine. Give us permission to unblock the audio and let the world hear who’s lying.” It’s effectively a trap for ACORN, and I’d be shocked if they agreed to such an offer.

It’s so much fun watching a criminal racket that’s been raping our electoral system go down in flames. popcorn

ADDENDUM: Note how bad this made the press look, too, for repeating ACORN’s lies without question.
