It’s draw Muhammad day!

May 20, 2010

My favorite new holiday of the year!

For background and a reason why.

And, since I can’t draw worth a tinker’s cuss, enjoy instead the most famous of the Dread Muhammad Cartoons of Blasphemy:

While he (or she?) largely oversimplifies the intellectual history of the West, I totally agree with Zombie in the sentiment.

Oh, and Muhammad’s favorite wife was six when they married, nine when he consummated that marriage. Let’s see, that makes him a… Hmm, gotta think about this… Oh, yeah! That makes Muhammad a pedophile!

Do I finally get a fatwa?

Islamic tolerance in action

May 11, 2010

All the man did was draw a mediocre satirical cartoon of Muhammad’s head on the body of a dog, yet, for that, Lars Vilks has lived for years now in fear of his life. And today, someone shouting “Allahu Akbar” attacked him:

I’m willing to bet the attacker wasn’t Episcopalian.

As Allahpundit observed:

Note to Trey Parker and Matt Stone: If you haven’t hired full-time bodyguards yet, this is your wake-up call.

But don’t you dare say Islam isn’t a religion of peace.  Not talking

And is there a difference?

Danish police shoot man trying to enter Mohammed cartoonist’s home

Danish police on Friday shot and wounded a man trying to enter the home of an artist who drew controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The man, a 27-year-old Somalian who was armed with an axe, was caught trying to break into the home of Kurt Westergaard at 10pm local time, police said.

Police shot the man, injuring him in his leg. He was taken into custody and is expected to recover.

Mr Westergaard, 74, was one of 12 cartoonists commissioned by the Jyllands-Posten newspaper to produce caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed five years ago. He has received several death threats since.

Get that? This brave jihadi was trying to take an ax to a 74 year old man for drawing a cartoon. By another account, his wife and their grandchild were in the house at the time, too. This is what the dominance of Islam and sharia law would bring: a death sentence not just for an individual who criticizes Islam and Muhammad, but for free speech itself. No one would ever feel free to speak their mind, lest it offend some imam who’s just dying to issue a fatwa. And Westergaard is by no means the first: Salman Rushdie has been in hiding since 1989 for writing a book that offended Ayatollah Khomeini. More recently, Somali refugee and Dutch citizen Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders, Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, and Arab-American psychologist Wafa Sultan have all had to take measures against death threats for criticizing Islam. The simple exercise of freedom of speech cost Theo van Gogh his life, gunned down and stabbed to death on an Amsterdam street by a Muslim angry over his criticisms of Islam.

Killing for insulting Islam and Muhammad is an old tradition in Islam, of course, going all the way back to Muhammad himself. The Bukhari collection of hadiths relates how Muhammad himself had a Jewish poet, K’ab bin al-Ashraf, assassinated for saying things offensive to “Allah and his Apostle.” (See volume 5, book 59, number 369)

Congratulations to Mr. Westergaard for surviving this attack, and all praise to the Danish police for their quick response. And for all of you who shout “democracy go to hell!” and think it’s a blessing to kill those who exercise their rights as freeborn people, you can fatwa this:

UPDATE: According to the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, the assassin has “close ties to the Somali terror organization al-Shabaab as well as to al-Qaeda leaders in East Africa….” Fancy that.

Islam and the threat to free speech

November 8, 2009

The jihad against the West isn’t just on the battlefields of Afghanistan, Iraq, or Ft. Hood, but it’s also an assault on the values Western Civilization holds dear, free speech chief among them. Britain’s Pat Condell looks at Islamic efforts to restrict free speech in international law and sends a warning to America from Europe:

I don’t agree with Pat’s atheism (being a devout apatheist, myself) and his hostility toward all religion, but I’m one-hundred percent down with his views on Islam, the rank hypocrisy and sanctimony of the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference,  and the threat posed by the cultural jihad and the spread of sharia law.

While Secretary of State Clinton has come out in opposition to it, her boss has directed that the United States co-sponsor the resolution in the Human Rights Council. Religion of Tolerance Watch

October 28, 2009

Following up on an item I linked yesterday, we now know why over 100 FBI agents -including snipers and helicopters- raided a Muslim slaughterhouse in Illinois: it was linked to a plot to kill 78-years old Kurt Westergaard, author of one of the most well-known of the infamous Muhammed Cartoons:

Two Chicago men charged in terror scheme

When FBI agents at O’Hare arrested David Headley en route to Pakistan earlier this month on charges he plotted to kill a newspaper cartoonist in Denmark, authorities say he held an additional airline reservation – to Copenhagen.

He was to depart Thursday.

Headley’s friend, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, who shared an extreme hatred for cartoons that depicted the prophet Mohammed, arranged for the flight, authorities said.

Any depiction of the prophet, even a favorable one, is forbidden by Islamic law as likely to lead to idolatry.

The Chicago men, who knew each other from a military school in Pakistan, on Tuesday were accused of an international plot dubbed “The Mickey Mouse Project” that since late 2008 included scheming with others to “commit terrorist acts against overseas targets,” according to federal criminal complaints made public in Chicago.

The North Side men are accused of plotting to target employees of the Danish newspaper Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten, which published cartoons of the prophet Mohammed in 2005, sparking violent riots across the Muslim world.

The most controversial of the 12 cartoons depicted Mohammed wearing a bomb with a lit fuse as a turban. That cartoon was drawn by Kurt Westergaard, 78 – who was targeted for assassination, authorities said.

This is the cartoon in question:

For this act of free speech, a right we in the West hold to be among the universal, natural rights of Mankind, Mr. Westergaard and Flemming Rose, the editor of the Jyllands-Posten, as well as other staff at the paper were marked for death.

They were to be murdered for offending Islam.

Free speech means nothing unless it means the freedom to criticize and even give offense, for no other kind of speech needs protection. If we renounce our right to criticize or even insult a public figure, a political party, or even a religion –any religion– then free speech is dead, the first amendment is “just words,” and we are all self-made dhimmis living in fear.

Which is exactly what jihadists like David Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana want.
