Muslim terrorists hit Sweden

December 11, 2010

The Religion of Peace lived up to its name again, this time in an attempted mass murder of Christmas shoppers in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. Two separate bombs went off, but, thankfully, only two Swedes were injured:

A car loaded with gas canisters detonated in a busy section of downtown Stockholm today, followed by another explosion 10 minutes later caused by a suicide bomber.

After the explosions, the bomber was found dead lying about 300 yards away from the car bomb, reportedly wearing a suicide vest and a backpack full of nails and surrounded by the remains of pipe bombs. The bombs apparently were inexpertly crafted and failed to detonate to full capacity. Two people were wounded in the bombings, which took place in a street filled with Christmas shoppers.

Only minutes before the attacks, the Swedish Security Police (SAPO) had received an email warning, with sound files in both Swedish and Arabic, referring to the presence of Swedish forces in Afghanistan and to the cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed by Swedish artist Lars Viks, Reuters reported.

“Our actions will speak for themselves, as long as you do not end your war against Islam and humiliation of the Prophet and your stupid support for the pig Viks,” the speaker threatened on the tape, as reported by Swedish news agency TT.

The message threatened the Swedish state and its people, according to the BBC, saying the time had come for them to die “like our brothers and sisters.” It also exhorted militant Muslims in Sweden and Europe to rise up against the West.

The Long War Journal notes the similarity of these attacks to the attempted Times Square bombing a few months ago, indicating perhaps another attack by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, the Pakistani Taliban. Sweden had been on high alert for several weeks, as a Mumbai-style attack had been feared in Europe for several weeks.

And you can bet, in politically correct, multiculturalist Sweden, Swedish authorities, media, and the intellectual elite will put the blame for this anywhere but where it rightly belongs: the doctrine of jihad fi sabil Allah (“War for the sake of Allah”) and the supremacist, separationist, and aggressive attitudes toward non-Muslims built into Islam.

Until our leaders recognize the religious aspect of a war that’s been going on for over a thousand years, these attacks are going to happen again and again.

They are still trying to kill us.

Pakistan: With friends like these

May 19, 2010

Pursuing leads in the failed attempt by Muslim terrorist Faisal Shahzad to set off a car-bomb in Times Square, the Pakistani military has arrested one its own army officers for involvement in the plot:

Just one day after Faisal Shahzad’s first appearance in a US court, a big development is coming out of Pakistan, where the failed Times Square attack originated. A major in the Pakistani army has been arrested by investigators for ties to the failed terror plot in New York. From the LA Times:

  • The major’s involvement with suspect Faisal Shahzad, who was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to fly to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, remains unclear. Law enforcement sources said the major had met Shahzad, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, in Islamabad, the capital, and was in cellphone contact with him.
  • The major’s arrest marks the first time someone in Pakistan’s military establishment has been directly linked to the case. The sources would not say when the alleged meeting and phone calls between Shahzad and the major took place, or what was discussed. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the investigation.

Bear in mind two things: we give the Pakistanis billions in aid money, while their military and intelligence services are riddled with jihadist sympathizers.

Something’s wrong with that picture; I’m not sure what…  Doh

But he was only an amateur terrorist

May 10, 2010

For those inclined to dismiss the Times Square jihadi as an “amateur” or with some other words meant to pooh-pooh him as nothing to really have worried about, consider the likely effect had the bomb gone off:

If you wanted to do a lot of damage with a well-rigged car bomb, the junction of West 45th Street and Broadway in midtown Manhattan, where Times Square narrows into an asphalt bottleneck, would be the place to pick. If the bomb planted in a green 1993 Nissan Pathfinder SUV on the evening of May 1 had exploded, here’s what would have happened, according to retired New York police department bomb-squad detective Kevin Barry. The car would have turned into a “boiling liquid explosive.” The propane tanks that the bomb comprised would have overheated and ignited into “huge blowtorches” that could have been ejected from the vehicle. The explosion, lasting only a few seconds, would have created a thermal ball wide enough to swallow up most of the intersection. A blast wave would have rocketed out in all directions at speeds of 12,000 to 14,000 ft. per sec. (3,700 to 4,300 m per sec.); hitting the surrounding buildings, the wave would have bounced off and kept going, as much as nine times faster than before. Anyone standing within 1,400 ft. (430 m) — about five city blocks — of the explosion would have been at risk of being hit by shrapnel and millions of shards of flying glass. The many who died would not die prettily. A TIME reporter familiar with the ravages of car bombs in Baghdad describes how victims appeared to be naked because a fireball melted their clothing onto the surface of their skin.

And, contra the President’s fool of a counterterrorism adviser, the only reason Times Square didn’t come to resemble downtown Baghdad circa 2006 was a combination of the bomber’s incompetence and the alertness of some street vendors and a homeless guy. The Department of Homeland Security and the rest of the security services had nothing to do with it, just as they had nothing to do with defeating the guy who tried to blow up NWA 253 over Detroit. We were lucky and incompetent; he was unlucky and incompetent.

But what happens when the luck turns?
