Moral clarity in Gaza: Israel vs. Hamas

July 18, 2014

???????????????????????????????????????????

(Source: Israel MFA)

Leave it to Charles Krauthammer to clear away the nonsense and lay bare the key difference between democratic Israel and the Hamas dictatorship in Gaza:

“Here’s the difference between us,” explains the Israeli prime minister. “We’re using missile defense to protect our civilians, and they’re using their civilians to protect their missiles.”

Rarely does international politics present a moment of such moral clarity. Yet we routinely hear this Israel-Gaza fighting described as a morally equivalent “cycle of violence.” This is absurd. What possible interest can Israel have in cross-border fighting? Everyone knows Hamas set off this mini-war. And everyone knows the proudly self-declared raison d’etre of Hamas: the eradication of Israel and its Jews.

Apologists for Hamas attribute the blood lust to the Israeli occupation and blockade. Occupation? Does no one remember anything? It was less than 10 years ago that worldwide television showed the Israeli army pulling die-hard settlers off synagogue roofs in Gaza as Israel uprooted its settlements, expelled its citizens, withdrew its military and turned every inch of Gaza over to the Palestinians. There was not a soldier, not a settler, not a single Israeli left in Gaza.

And what happened after the Israelis left Gaza? Did the residents take the numerous greenhouses the Israelis left behind to grow food for their own people? Did they build roads and schools and a reasonable social safety net? Did they attract foreign investment to provide their people with productive jobs and a better life?

Oh, heavens no. That would be to imitate the Jews next door, and we can’t have that!

No, Hamas and their supporters destroyed the greenhouses and used all the aid and money the world (including Israel) gave them to instead dig tunnels, tunnels in which they hid weapons (and their leaders, for those times when Israel has had enough). They spent those millions buying rockets to fire at Israeli civilians (and at a nuclear reactor!), out of a religious need to fight and kill Jews.

Not “Zionists.” Jews. Because Allah tells them to.

And Hamas turns their own civilians into human shields not just to protect their precious missiles, but in the hope of getting some of their own civilians killed, because they want gory photos to wave before the world while shouting “See what those awful Jews did to us!” As for Gazans who get killed, well, it was Allah’s will and Allah will welcome them as martyrs. Whether they wanted to be one, or not.

That is the so-bright-it’s-almost-blinding difference the jihad-terror group Hamas, a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the State of Israel, and any attempt to draw any equivalence between them is obscene.

Be sure to read the whole thing.

PS: Israel has launched a ground offensive into Gaza, and I hope they go all the way and destroy Hamas. I think this time they could do it, because Egypt, under President al-Sisi, who loathes the Muslim Brotherhood (along with many Egyptians), will do nothing to protect its Gazan branch.

Gaza air raids a message from Israel to Iran

July 10, 2014

Memo to the mullahs

For the last three days, Israel has been launching air raids against Hamas targets in Gaza in retaliation for the murder of three Israeli teens (one an American citizen) and the hundreds of rockets fired at Israelis towns and cities — and at a nuclear plant. (1)

But Hamas isn’t the sole target of these attacks. Writing at National Review, analyst Tom Rogan points out that Iran and its increasingly likely acquisition of nuclear weapons, and the destabilizing consequences of that for the region, are very much on Jerusalem’s mind, even as they battle Hamas. And so the heavy air assaults on Gaza are also a message to Tehran:

Meeting Hamas and [Palestinian Islamic Jihad] rocket teams with decisive force, Netanyahu hopes to signal Israel’s unwillingness to cede its traditional security supremacy. This intent is encapsulated in Israel’s mobilization of ground-force deployments: Netanyahu seems determined to take major risks in pursuit of grand strategic objectives (in this case, the military dismemberment of Hamas). Nevertheless, Israeli operations in Gaza aren’t solely about damaging Hamas. They’re also about broadcasting specific capabilities. In this regard, the scale of Israel Defense Forces air sorties in Gaza has been notable. Advertising its conducting of hundreds of missions each night, the IDF is demonstrating its capability for large-scale operations: the kind of air campaign necessary to attack Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Here, Netanyahu wants Iran to understand his willingness to gamble — even at potentially high cost. By extension, Netanyahu is also warning U.S., European, and Russian diplomats that he won’t accept any deal with Iran that he regards as weak.

Emphasis added.

It would be much better for the region and the world if this message were sent in conjunction with American and European efforts to encourage and support the opposition to the mullahcracy, a brittle, vulnerable regime that fears its own people. What worked against the Soviet empire –a clear willingness to defend oneself coupled with measures to support dissidents– would surely work here.

But, as our foreign policy under Obama is a feckless wreck that sees a diminution of American power as something desirable, while administration officials simultaneously urge restraint on Israel and praise allies of Hamas, Prime Minister Netanyahu is left on his own to make sure Ayatollah Khamenei gets the message loud and clear:

“Don’t push us.”

PS: Yes, a Palestinian teen was murdered, probably in retaliation for the killing of the three Jewish teens. But note the difference: the evening of the day the boy’s body was found, Netanyahu was publicly denouncing the killing and calling for a swift investigation. Six Jewish Israelis have been arrested as suspects, and the nation is horrified. What was the reaction in Hamas-controlled Gaza to the kidnapping of the three Jewish teens? People handed out candy in celebration. You tell me who the real savages are.

Footnote:
(1) Unbelievably idiotic. Last I checked, radioactive fallout didn’t discriminate between Muslim and Jew.

(Video) Hamas TV: children’s show encourages killing Jews

May 11, 2014

He’s back! Nahoul the antisemitic killer bee, whom we last heard was killed by those evil Jews, is alive! And, not only that, but he’s returned to Palestinian television, encouraging children to do the right thing.

Kill Jews.

Here’s an excerpt from the transcript, via MEMRI:

Nahoul (talking to girl TV host Rawan) : Rawan, I want to tell him to pick up a stone, and when the Jews come, to take it and throw it.

Rawan: That’s right, if the neighbors are Jewish…

Nahoul: He should beat them up.

Rawan: If his neighbors are Jewish or Zionist, that goes without saying.

[…]

Rawan (to Tulin, a little girl in the studio) : Tulin, why do you want to become a policewoman? Like who?

Tulin: Like my uncle.

Rawan: Who is your uncle?

Tulin: His name is Ahmad.

Rawan: He’s a policeman? What do the police do?

Nahoul: They catch thieves and troublemakers.

Rawan: And they shoot Jews, right?

Tulin: Right.

Rawan: You want to be like him? Allah willing, when you grow up.

Tulin: I will shoot the Jews.

Rawan: All of them?

Tulin: Yes.

Rawan: Good.

In fact, it’s even a little more evil, when you think about it; not only are they using a cute animal figure (something kids love) to teach a message of hate, but they’ve co-opted an older girl, essentially a “big sister” to the little ones, to make the murderous teaching explicit. “It’s okay.”

If Dante were around, he’d add another circle in Hell to his Inferno, just for the rats who who program this garbage.

Think about it: these are the people the Israelis are supposed to negotiate with. These are the people to whom our Secretary of State (and, in fairness, almost every Secretary before him for the last 40 years) is trying to be an honest broker, to reach a good-faith settlement between them and the Israelis. And it’s not just the Islamo-fascists of Hamas; the supposedly secular Palestinian Authority regularly pumps Jew hatred through its media, too.

How is one supposed to negotiate with someone who not only wants you dead, but teaches their children that killing you is a divinely-ordained duty?

RELATED: We’ve met other cute antisemitic animals before on Arab television. Here’s another: Assud, the Jew-eating rabbit. Also check out my “Teach the Children” category. And, for the adults, an important message: Muslims should humiliate Christians to make them convert to Islam.

Oh, so that’s why the Jews are in Israel! Now I get it!

May 18, 2011

They’re there so the Muslims can massacre them and rid the world of their evil, just as Allah wishes! Isn’t that wonderful?

Hey, don’t take my word for it. Just ask Hamas MP and Islamic cleric(1) Yunis al-Astal:

The transcript:

Yunis Al-Astal: The [Jews] are brought in droves to Palestine so that the Palestinians – and the Islamic nation behind them – will have the honor of annihilating the evil of this gang.

[…]

All the predators, all the birds of prey, all the dangerous reptiles and insects, and all the lethal bacteria are far less dangerous than the Jews.

[…]

In just a few years, all the Zionists and the settlers will realize that their arrival in Palestine was for the purpose of the great massacre, by means of which Allah wants to relieve humanity of their evil.

[…]

When Palestine is liberated and its people return to it, and the entire region, with the grace of Allah, will have turned into the United States of Islam, the land of Palestine will become the capital of the Islamic Caliphate, and all these countries will turn into states within the Caliphate. When this happens, any Palestinian will be able to live anywhere, because the land of Islam is the property of all Muslims.

Until this happens, we must reject all the resettlement plans, naturalization, or even reparations prior to the return of the refugees.

(Emphases added)

Remember, this is the organization the Left would have us and Israel treat as legitimate “partners for peace.” The same group that regularly and indiscriminately rockets Israeli towns and cities — even school buses. And the same group that praised bin Laden on his death.

It’s all part of the divine plan, don’t you see? Just as kindly Mr. al-Astal explained.

(1) Which means he’s well-schooled in Islamic theology and law. Keep that in mind.

Friends and enemies, and how to tell the difference

May 3, 2011

Consider this a bookend to yesterday’s post about Hamas eulogizing bin Laden and thus declaring itself an enemy of the United States.  Here’s what a friend, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, had to say:

This is an historic day for the United States of America and for all the countries engaged in the battle against terrorism.  I want to congratulate President Obama and the American people.  I want to congratulate America’s soldiers, and its intelligence personnel for a truly outstanding achievement.  It took ten years to track Osama bin Laden down.  It took ten years to bring a measure of justice to his victims.

But the battle against terrorism is long and relentless and resolute.  This is a day of victory – a victory for justice, for freedom and for our common civilization.

And here’s the video:

Friends and enemies. It’s not hard to tell them apart at all.

In which Hamas openly declares itself an enemy of the United States

May 2, 2011

Okay, okay. anyone who’s been paying attention has known for years that Hamas is an enemy of America: a Salafist, jihadist organization dedicated to our ally Israel’s destruction and the genocide of her Jews, they’re also the spawn of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is waging a “civilizational jihad” against America and the West. You don’t have to be a great analyst to deduce that Hamas is not likely to be friendly to the US and is indeed probably an enemy.

But it is considerate of them to make it plain for all to see:

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Monday condemned the killing by U.S. forces of Osama bin Laden and mourned him as an “Arab holy warrior.”

“We regard this as a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood,” Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, told reporters.

Though he noted doctrinal differences between bin Laden’s al-Qaida and Hamas, Haniyeh said: “We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior. We ask God to offer him mercy with the true believers and the martyrs.”

So, eulogizing the guy responsible for the deaths of nearly 3,000 Americans and foreign guests and untold thousands of Muslims in Iraq and elsewhere. Nice.

To invert an old saying:

The friend of my enemy is my enemy.

I wonder if Seal Team 6 is busy right now… .

Al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hizbullah: the boys in Brazil

April 6, 2011

It’s been noted before by myself and others that our porous southern border poses not only a problem of illegal immigration, but an avenue of opportunity for terrorists trying to get into the United States.  Hamas has been trying to set up operations in Mexico, Hizbullah has become involved in the Colombian drug trade, and an Iranian book celebrating suicide bombers was found in the Arizona desert, probably not dropped by a Mexican looking for day-work in Phoenix.

Now comes word via a Brazilian periodical that al Qaeda operatives are in Brazil, plotting and organizing:

Al Qaeda operatives are in Brazil planning attacks, raising money and recruiting followers, a leading news magazine reported Saturday, renewing concerns about the nation serving as a hide-out for Islamic militants.

Veja magazine, in its online edition, reported that at least 20 people affiliated with al Qaeda as well as the Lebanese Shi’ite Muslim group Hezbollah, the Palestinian group Hamas and two other organizations have been hiding out in the South American country.

The magazine said these operatives have been raising money and working to incite attacks abroad. The magazine cited Brazilian police and U.S. government reports, but did not give details on specific targets or operations.

This isn’t the first word we’ve had of Islamic jihadists in South America, of course. As the article mentions, the United States has long believed that the lawless area where the Brazilian, Paraguayan, and Argentine borders meet harbored terrorists and Iranian agents. But this latest news from Brazil is a salutary reminder that our enemies are not just in the Hindu Kush: they are much closer, they are making plans, and we are a very likely target. (Though not the only one…)
