Shocker! Why Helen Thomas retired

June 10, 2010

At last, the truth stands revealed!

Bitter harridan, she is. Go, she must.

I’m not at all surprised

June 7, 2010

In fact, I predicted it. Helen Thomas, harridan and antisemitic “journalist,” has retired:

Helen Thomas, the legendary White House reporter who paved the way for female journalists covering politics, will retire following a firestorm over comments she made about Jews in Israel.

On Monday, Hearst News Service, her latest employer, announced the immediate retirement of Thomas.

Thomas, who turns 90 in August, told a rabbi at a White House event last month that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and go back to Germany and Poland or the United States. Her comments were caught on videotape and widely circulated.

The remarks caused an uproar, although she had immediately apologized.

It wasn’t much of an apology. In fact, it sounded more like she was just sorry for being caught.

Good riddance.

PS. Can we also rid ourselves of the likes of Pat Buchanan, Al Sharpton, and Jessie Jackson? The atmosphere of our political life would improve immeasurably.

Bigoted jackasses on parade

June 4, 2010

Today must be “prejudice day” here at Public Secrets. Following the trail Andrew Klavan blazed, let’s a look at a few more jaw-dropping examples of of people being total schmucks. (And I use the word “people” loosely.)

First there’s Helen Thomas, long the senior-most member of the White House press corps. She had these charming words to say just a few days ago:

(via Jewish-Americans for Sarah Palin)

Much more from Allahpundit, who isn’t buying this hag’s apology. Also more from Big Journalism. Charming. If there’s any justice, she’ll be announcing her retirement into a deserved obscurity next Monday.

But let’s not stop there, shall we?

In Europe, the Israeli Ambassador to the European Union appeared before a committee of the Union’s parliament to explain Israel’s actions and present clear evidence that the commandos fired in self-defense. Most of the assembled MEPs couldn’t have cared less. They had their narrative and they were sticking to it, damn it:

On Tuesday, one day after Israeli commandos raided a supposedly “humanitarian” flotilla headed for the Gaza Strip, Israeli Ambassador to the EU Ran Curiel appeared before the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee in what would become a raucous session. Even before Curiel had the chance to speak, representatives of one parliamentary group after another took the floor to condemn Israel’s action.

Spanish MEP María Muñiz De Urquiza of the Socialist group described the Israeli raid as an act of “piracy,” for instance, and called for an end to the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza. French MEP Nicole Kiil-Nielsen of the Green group raised the tone further, describing Gaza as a “ghetto” and the flotilla as a “flotilla of peace.” Kiil-Nielsen added, “I hope that the death of these pacifists, these activists, will lead us to say this time: ‘That’s enough! It has to stop! …Let us put an end to the impunity of Israel!’”

Don’t be shy, Nicole. Go ahead, say what you really mean: “Let us put an end to Israel!” You’re a shoo-in to land a spot at the next Nuremberg rally.

Only one of the British members, Charles Tannock, had the decency and the spine to stand up against this two minutes of hate and for the truth. Via Power Line, who observed:

It is difficult to view the tape of the EU parliamentary session and not conclude that the EU is no friend of Israel, but rather sides reflexively with Israel’s enemies. The Israelis should tune it out, if they have not done so already.

This event also undercuts the view of those who claim that Israel’s failure to release video of the incident more quickly was a significant factor in the PR battle. The reaction to this incident was based almost entirely on ideology. Those who condemned Israel were not interested in the evidence, and no evidence was likely to change the reaction appreciably.

Next we move a little more (uncomfortably ) close to home, as students at La Quinta High here in California are being disciplined for organizing and participating in a game of, I wish I were kidding,  “Beat the Jew:”

Several high school students in La Quinta have been disciplined for their involvement in a late-night game of tag called “Beat the Jew ” on school grounds last month.

The game, which gathered participants via Facebook, is a complicated contest of tag, in which “Jews” are taken, blind-folded, by car to a place off campus and have to make their way back to base, while pursued by “Nazis”,  said Sherri Johnstone, assistant superintendent for personnel at the Desert Sands Unified School District.

Honestly, I don’t blame the kids (we all know what jerks high-school students can be) nearly as much as I blame the school district, which clearly hasn’t done enough to educate their students in the history of antisemitism and the Holocaust. Still, this leaves me asking that immortal question, WTF??

And just to show that boneheaded bigotry is not the sole province of MSM journalists and other Leftists, please consider the case of South Carolina State Senator Jackie Knotts (R), who said of State Representative Nikki Haley (also R), an Indian-American and a candidate for governor there:

“We got a raghead in Washington; we don’t need one in South Carolina,” Knotts said more than once. “She’s a raghead that’s ashamed of her religion trying to hide it behind being Methodist for political reasons.”

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention he included the President of the United States, too. Charming fellow. He makes Bull Connor look like Mr. Sensitivity. Maybe he and Helen can share a cabana at Club KKK. Really, read the whole entry at Ace’s. You’d swear it had to be made up. Sadly, it isn’t. (More at Hot Air)

I’m pretty sure that all left as bad a taste in your mouth as it did in mine, so here’s some humor to wash it out with – Monty Python’s game show, Prejudice:
