Study: no acceleration in global warming, climate sensitivity to CO2 too high

December 1, 2017

In which science-denying Earth refuses to cooperate and get warmer fast enough for climate alarmists.

Watts Up With That?

New research yields old result: Climate warming slow, steady. Observed value is half that of CMIP5 climate models.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Nov. 29, 2017) — The rate at which Earth’s atmosphere is warming has not significantly accelerated over the past 23 years, according to research at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).

If you take away the transient cooling in 1983 and 1992 caused by two major volcanic eruptions in the preceding years, the remaining underlying warming trend in the bottom eight kilometers (almost five miles) of the atmosphere was 0.096 C (about 0.17° Fahrenheit) per decade between January 1979 and June 2017.

That was unexpectedly close to the 0.09 C warming trend found when similar research was published in 1994 with only 15 years of data, said Dr. John Christy, director of UAH’s Earth System Science Center.

This work might also indirectly affirm recent research showing the…

(Video) Facts don’t care about your feelings

May 14, 2017

We seem lately to be going through a phase of madness in which what one feels or believes is more important than the truth. If you feel you been offended, then you have been offended regardless of the intent of the other person. And that in turn makes you a victim, which gives you special moral authority against which there can be no rational argument, no reasonable other point of view, just “hate.”

Here’s Ben Shapiro with the facts:

OOPS! Solar power causes climate change. Green cultists, rent-seekers hardest hit

Climate changer

Climate changer

Hat tip to Pirate’s Cove, this little item in The Washington Post should have the climate alarmists, well, alarmed:

Large solar arrays could have some surprising side effects, according to a new study, including causing changes in the local climate.

On a global scale, these changes will be minor compared to what would happen if humans continue to burn fossil fuel for energy instead, but are still worth watching, scientists say.

Figuring out how renewable energy sources will affect their local landscapes is an increasingly relevant challenge for scientists, as more and more nations are vowing to slash their carbon outputs and switch to alternatives, such as solar and wind energy. Previous studies have shown that both solar arrays and wind farms have the potential to cause regional changes in temperature and precipitation by altering the amount of solar radiation absorbed by the Earth or disrupting local airflow patterns.

With this in mind, Aixue Hu, a climate change research scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, conducted a study, published Monday in Nature Climate Change, that attempted to predict the climatic effects of solar arrays.

Part of the magical thinking of the Climastrologists is that their alternative energy sources are so clean and pure that it’s worth any inefficiencies and higher consumer costs to save the Earth. Rent-seeking captains of Green industries claim the subsidies they receive (read: taxpayer money) are for a good cause.

Which, of course, is so much horse manure. At a minimum, solar plants and wind farms need back up power plants spinning on standby 24-by-7, ready to take up the slack for those times when the sun doesn’t shine or the wind doesn’t blow (or blows too hard). They have to be ready at a moment’s notice, which means they have to be reliable, which in turn means they run on… fossil fuels. Fuels that spew evil, demonic, Gaea-hating CO2 into the atmosphere.

And that’s just from the back-up plants. As the article suggests, the heat generated by solar plants and the changes to wind patterns (as wind farms take energy from the wind to convert to electricity) have to have some local and regional effects.

But, don’t worry. Per the article, this is nothing compared to GLOBAL DESTRUCTION!!! that’s coming from anthropogenic global warming.

On a planet that hasn’t warmed for 18 years.

But don’t ever let the facts get in the way of a good racket.

22 Very Inconvenient Climate Truths

May 12, 2015

I believe my favorite is number seven: ” In some geological periods the CO2 content of the air has been up to 20 times today’s content, and there has been no runaway temperature increase.” Funny how the planet survived — if only they’d had computer models back then!

Watts Up With That?

Here are 22 good reasons not to believe the statements made by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

22-inconvenienttruths-on-global-warmingGuest essay by Jean-Pierre Bardinet.

According to the official statements of the IPCC “Science is clear” and non-believers cannot be trusted.

Quick action is needed! For more than 30 years we have been told that we must act quickly and that after the next three or five years it will be too late (or even after the next 500 days according to the French Minister of foreign affairs speaking in 2014) and the Planet will be beyond salvation and become a frying pan -on fire- if we do not drastically reduce our emissions of CO2, at any cost, even at the cost of economic decline, ruin and misery.

But anyone with some scientific background who takes pains to study the topics at hand is quickly led to conclude that…

Plants encouraged as CO2 levels reach 400 ppm

May 10, 2015

Something else climate alarmists don’t like to consider, because the truth is an abomination in their cult: rising levels of CO2 are generally good for plant life, as CO2 is plant food, and more plants means more food for humans. Maybe that’s why they don’t like it, since climate alarmists also tend to be Malthusians at heart.

Watts Up With That?

Guest Opinion: Dr. Tim Ball is writing on behalf of the plants.

The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports that global monthly CO2 levels reached 400 ppm. They present this as threatening news, but it is good news for plants and animals. I was involved in abrief to the US Supreme Court opposing the EPAactions on CO2. I proposed we seek Power of Attorney (POA) for the plants. We would vote on behalf of the plants against any attempts to reduce atmospheric CO2 from the current claimed 400 ppm and for any increase, at least to a level of 1200 ppm.

Seeking POA sounds like an environmental stunt for the Sierra Club, or all those who claim to care about plants and animals. Why aren’t they doing it? Why aren’t they proclaiming the good news for the plants and animals they say they care about? The answer…

Next time someone tells you CO2 causes global warming…

September 18, 2011

Show them this chart:

(Click on the diagram to enlarge.)

The blue line represents estimates of average global temperature, while the black records the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. If there’s a correlation (1) here between rising temperate and rising CO2, I sure don’t see it.

The authors at Geocraft point out that only twice in the Earth’s history have CO2 levels been as low as they are now. In fact, if it were to go much lower, photosynthesis would shut off and plant life would die. (2)

Talk about “unintended consequences” should the “Save Gaea” crowd succeed at geo-engineering!

via Power Line.

Footnotes:
(1) In fact, there’s some evidence that a rise in CO2 lags a temperature rise, not precedes it.
(2) Of course, light and heat play major roles, too, but the point is that we are much closer to the minimum than any dangerously high levels.
