MI5: On the anniversary of London tube bombings, raise UK terror threat to “critical?”

July 6, 2015

“Never give in!”

That’s the news out of London today, as UK security chiefs warn the nation faces the greatest danger of attack in years:

The revelation comes just 24-hours before the nation stops to remember the dead from the 7/7 terrorist attack in 2005 in which 52 London commuters were killed.

Threats from the Islamic State to attack the West during Ramadan have prompted the re-think on national security. The top level meeting follows the terror bombing in Tunisiathat claimed the lives of 30 holidaying Britons.

The Daily Express reports a ‘well-placed security source’ revealed that security chiefs were homing in on three areas of particular concern; East London, the West Midlands and Greater Manchester. The source said:

“The authorities are literally monitoring thousands of people who are deemed a threat. They had their work cut out before the rise of the Islamic Sate but the threat of terrorism now is probably at it’s highest for eight years.

“The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre meets regularly and there have been serious discussions about whether to raise the nation’s threat level to ‘Critical’. “To make that leap is a very, very big step because what it is basically saying to the public is that we are about to be attacked.

“For that reason the data has to be watertight to make such a decision and for the time being there isn’t enough credible evidence to do so. However the discussions are ongoing and nothing has been discounted. We are facing a really serious threat from Islamic State.”

Tomorrow is the tenth anniversary of the London bombings, when four brave jihadis murderous suicide bombers killed 52 people. Al Qaeda and its offshoots, including ISIS/Islamic State, love to attack on anniversaries, as we experienced in Benghazi on 9/11/12. The anniversary of their cowardly attack on London must be a very tempting occasion.

The Brits have excellent, very serious-minded counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism services and personnel. If they say the threat is borderline critical, take them at their word. One wonders if they leaked this news to fend off the threat by sending a message to the terrorists that “we’re on to you lot,” perhaps goading them into a mistake, or if this is some sort of public alert, issued in the hope of someone reporting something they might otherwise have overlooked.

Regardless, we wish our friends in the UK “good hunting” and hope they nail these medieval psychos before any more innocents are hurt.

PS: While I meant every word of praise written above, one has to think “What the unholy [eff]??” at the news that an al Qaeda-aligned imam, who was an inspiration for the group behind the recent massacre of Britons in Tunisia, continues to live in a mansion in London on welfare. That’s not just wrong, that’s insane.

Such classy people — not

September 12, 2011

As part of yesterday’s observance of the tenth anniversary of the September 11th atrocities, the US Embassy in London held its own services. Also present were a group of Muslims who held their own commemoration:

A small group of Islamist demonstrators staged a protest outside the US embassy in London Sunday during a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

Around 50 people brandished anti-US banners, chanted slogans and burnt a small piece of paper with a picture of the US flag on it, an AFP journalist at the scene said.

Britain’s Press Association news agency reported that the protesters were from a group called Muslims Against Crusades.

They were there to disrupt a moment of silence scheduled for the time that the first plane struck the World Trade Center. When these religious fascists started their fire, the police formed a line to keep them away. Regrettably, no police dogs were loosed on these jerks.

Such classy people.

Not surprising: Londoners left undefended move to defend themselves

August 10, 2011

Well, what did anyone expect when the police are kept on a tight leash, the fire brigades are overwhelmed, and the Home Secretary thinks the proper response is to scold parents?

When the government refuses to do its duty, vigilantism is the inevitable result:

Top London officials have warned the city’s citizens against administering vigilante justice in the midst of widespread riots after several groups organized to protect their property by any means necessary.

“We don’t want to see vigilantism,” London mayor Boris Johnson said today in a press conference, according to The Telegraph. “People defending their homes and shops must only use reasonable force.”

Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stephen Kavanagh also urged restraint, saying “vigilantism” could lead to further violence, according to a report by the BBC.

Three men at least have already been killed, run over as they were apparently defending their neighborhood in Birmingham, also torn by riots. Whether it was an accident or deliberate isn’t known. And London itself seems to be quieter after thousands of police have been brought in. (And the rioters are probably tuckered out, poor dears.)

Maybe Mayor Johnson and Deputy Assistant Commissioner Kavanagh (and the rest of that gelded government) should consider that citizens wouldn’t be resorting to vigilantism if the government had only done its bloody job to protect lives and property. These riots should never have got past the first night. Where the state ceases to exist, people will revert to a Hobbesian state of nature to protect their lives and property, which is just we’re seeing here. Those men who were run-over were only doing what any reasonable person would do, and their deaths are to be laid directly at the door of this pusillanimous government.

And don’t get me started on the insane British restrictions on firearms. When Los Angeles erupted in riots in 1994 1992, stores in Korean neighborhoods were relatively untouched. Why? Because the Korean owners had guns and made it quite clear they were willing to use them if the police couldn’t protect them. As is their right.

But in the UK, the people aren’t allowed guns to defend themselves from a mob. They’re told to rely on the police. And when the police aren’t there? They’re reduced to ordering baseball bats from Amazon.

The government should resign. This is pathetic.

LINKS: More from The Guardian. Read it all, but here’s a sample:

When the rioters came to attack the premises of Kurdish and Turkish businesses in Hackney’s Stoke Newington High Street and Kingsland Road on Monday night, the owners were waiting for them.

“It was between about nine and 10 at night,” said Yilmaz Karagoz, sitting in his coffee shop next to a jeweller’s shop that has been shuttered since Sunday when the rioting began and a pharmacy that closed a day after.

“There were a lot of them. We came out of our shops but the police asked us to do nothing. But the police did not do anything so, as more came, we chased them off ourselves.” The staff from a local kebab restaurant ran at the attackers, doner knives in their hands. “I don’t think they will be coming back,” Karagoz said.

EDIT: Fixed the date of the LA riots. I lived through them, you’d think I’d remember.

Britain: Her Majesty’s Government surrenders to the rioters

August 9, 2011

Just unbelievable fecklessness:

The Home Secretary [Theresa May] appeared to rule out sending water cannon or the Army onto the streets of the capital, despite a third night of violence.

Speaking on Sky News, she said that police intelligence and the support of local communities would help quell the disturbances.

“The way we police in Britain is not through use of water cannon,” she said. “The way we police in Britain is through consent of communities.”

WTF??

Since when do the police need “consent” to enforce the law? And what about citizens whose properties are being burned to the ground, or the workers who no longer have jobs to go to because their workplaces are in ashes? What about law-abiding Britons too frightened to go out into their own neighborhoods to buy food?

Are they not part of the community, Madame Home Secretary? Perhaps you have their “consent” to defend their lives and livelihoods without having to ask “Mother, may I?”

I’m probably just overreacting because I’m one of those “Cowboy Americans” who doesn’t understand the subtleties and nuances of “sophisticated” Euro-policing. I should have guessed that Secretary May had the perfect solution:

As those charged with offences appear in court today, “people will start to see the consequences of their actions”, Mrs May added.

“There are many who are easily identified through CCTV cameras.”

She also told BBC Breakfast that “parents need to be asking themselves where were their children, what were their children doing in the evening.”

She added: “There are longer-term questions about when we see parents letting their children as young as that sort of age be out on the streets in this way.”

So, there you go. The perfect nanny-state answer to an uprising by vandals: passively watching and then threatening to tell their mothers. Excuse me while I go hurl.

And you can bet that the fascists of the British National Party are rubbing their hands with glee, knowing that this nerveless, cringing, emasculated, pathetic excuse of a government whose only response is a scolding will just drive more and more people their way out of desperation.

Alfred the Great, Edward I, Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria, Canning, Disraeli, Churchill… They’re all spinning in their graves now.

Irishman in London: “I hope they rot in Hell!”

August 9, 2011

And lest you think he’s expressing an Irishman’s traditional hostility towards the British, he’s telling the rioters to go to Hell. Oh, and he also helped to safety a terrified 90-year old woman whom nobody else seemed to give a damn about, so I think he’s earned the right to tell those marauding jackasses to go to Hell:

This has been going on for, what, 2-3 days now? The police are nearly overwhelmed, the fire brigades can’t cover all the blazes, citizens’ property and livelihoods are being destroyed, their lives endangered, all by an anarcho-nihilist mob that has taken the measure of the State and found it weak and timid. What was once the capital of the world now looks like something out of 28 Days Later.

So, forgive the probably naive question, but when does Prime Minister David Cameron remember he’s the heir to Pitt and Salisbury and Churchill, grow a pair, and send in the Army?

Sharia comes to the UK, your dog is not welcome

June 26, 2010

The growing submission of British society to Islam and Islamic law continues apace, as a passenger was forbidden from bringing her dog onto a public bus for fear of offending Muslims:

On two occasions last week my dog was barred from London buses, not because she’s particularly fierce or big, but on religious grounds. A friend and I had taken her to the park, and as I went across to the grocer, my friend took Daisy, a Manchester terrier, to the bus stop.

When a second bus arrived, she again made to embark, but was stopped again – this time because the driver said he was Muslim. I know that Muslims consider dogs to be unclean, but last time I looked this wasn’t a Muslim country and London Transport was a non-denominational organisation.

As they tried to board the bus, the driver stopped her and told her that there was a Muslim lady on the bus who “might be upset by the dog”. As she attempted to remonstrate, the doors closed and the bus drew away.

Well, the UK may not be a Muslim country ( yet), but the Archibishop of Canterbury has said it may be time to admit some aspects of sharia law into British jurisprudence, so Fido’s banning may just be a taste of the future.

And note the first driver’s dhimmi reaction: colored as tolerance and respect, I’ve no doubt it was born of fear of Muslim anger and a de facto deference to Islamic supremacy. You don’t hear of people acting like this in submission to “Christians on board” or for not wanting to offend the Jews on the bus.

It’s another small victory for the cultural jihad.

(via Creeping Sharia)

LINKS: At Jihad Watch, Robert Spencer cites the Islamic justification for Muslim disdain for dogs. In an earlier incident, I made it clear what I think of Islam vs. dogs.

UPDATE: Something I forgot to mention – I’ve no sure idea what the rules are in Britain regarding animals on public transportation. In the US, they’re generally banned, unless it’s a service animal. However, I’ve seen plenty of exceptions for well-behaved pets. In the case discussed above, it seems clear to me that the woman and her friend were accustomed to taking their dogs aboard the bus, making these two instances unusual. Equally, the drivers made it clear they weren’t enforcing civil rules, but religious law.

Mumbai on the Thames?

December 20, 2009

The news that terrorists may be planning to replicate the Mumbai massacre in a Western city shouldn’t surprise us; one of the goals of the jihad is to bring Western civilization to its knees with divinely sanctioned terror (See number 220). What better way than to attack one of the West’s financial centers?

Police expect Mumbai-style terror attack on City of London

Scotland Yard has warned businesses in London to expect a Mumbai-style attack on the capital.

In a briefing in the City of London 12 days ago, a senior detective from SO15, the Metropolitan police counter-terrorism command, said: “Mumbai is coming to London.”

The detective said companies should anticipate a shooting and hostage-taking raid “involving a small number of gunmen with handguns and improvised explosive devices”.

The warning — the bluntest issued by police — has underlined an assessment that a terrorist cell may be preparing an attack on London early next year.

It was issued by the Met through its network of “security forums”, which provide business leaders, local government and the emergency services with counter-terrorism advice.

During a “commando-style” raid by 10 gunmen on hotels and cafes in Mumbai in November 2008, 174 people were killed and more than 300 injured over three days.

Officials now report an increase in “intelligence chatter” — communications captured by electronic eavesdropping agencies. One senior security adviser said the police warnings had intensified and become much more specific in the past fortnight.

“Before, there has been speculation. Now we are getting what appears to be a definite plot to carry out a firearms attack on London,” he said.

Earlier this year, police, military and intelligence services held an exercise in Kent to see whether they could defeat a commando raid in London by terrorists.

“The exercise brought out to those taking part that the capability doesn’t exist to deal with that situation should it arise,” said a military source.

That last has be quite a comforting to people who live and work in the City: “Well, yes, it may well happen, but, don’t worry! We have no idea what to do! Carry on!”

Of course, defending against just such an attack is difficult, especially when the jihadis have accepted the inevitability of their own deaths and thus thrown caution to the winds. A small band that strikes quickly at targets that had been scouted in advance will have plenty of time to take hostages and do damage before the police or military can react. And if, as in the case of the Jewish center in Mumbai, the attackers don’t plan to take hostages, you can expect many dead before there’s ever a chance of rescuing them.

While the “chatter” may be just that and nothing more, it’s a given that al Qaeda and allied Salafist groups want to strike at important Western targets. And not just London: Washington, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles all present their own tempting targets, to name but a few. And it will happen: the FBI and local police have foiled over a score of serious threats in the continental United States since 9/11, most recently in New York and Denver.

Let’s not forget, they’re still trying to kill us.

Jihad fi sabil Allah.
