(Video) Bill Maher: Obama’s Million Dollar Man

March 9, 2012

For the last week or so. the Democrats, the Left, and the MSM (but I repeat myself) have been up in arms about Rush Limbaugh’s off-the-cuff insults against law student and professional activist Sandra Fluke. (For which he apologized) Many on the Right, while criticizing Limbaugh’s comments (for which he apologized), noted quite fairly the seemingly endless insults from Our Betters On The Left (all bow) toward conservative women and even liberal women who stray off the plantation, but which are rarely noted in the major media and never cause a furor in Congress.

The push-back has begun.  A new organization of conservative women, ShePAC, has hit back hard with a video linking Barack Obama with his million-dollar misogynist (1) donor, Bill Maher. It’s a good one:

Which leads to two questions: When will Barack Obama, who says he is so concerned about the civility of the world in which his daughters will grow up, give back “Misogynist” Maher’s donation? And where, oh where is the outrage from leftist feministas (with the notable exception of Kirsten Powers) at the scatological treatment of their sisters on the Right?

Well?

RELATED: My blog-buddy ST hasn’t just pushed-back, she’s declared war. She also has video of Sarah Palin slamming President Obama for his lack of valor in accepting Maher’s money.

Footnote:
(1) It’s more than just an occasional expression of exasperation with a political foe leading to heated speech. Maher does this regularly enough and as a usual part of his “comedy;” I can only assume he has a problem with women — at least, conservative ones. And, I’ll note, he has never apologized. Unlike Rush Limbaugh.

Greece bans Islamic law

August 25, 2011

Greece and the Greeks have come in for some well-deserved criticism in recent years, first for their insane profligate borrowing and then for throwing a national tantrum and rioting when their creditors demanded they take steps to fix their fiscal mess.

But, give the cradle of democracy, liberty, and Western civilization some credit, too. When given a chance to strike a blow for human freedom, they did it, banning Sharia law:

This Muslim law establishes among others the right of polygamy and gives only to men the right to divorce their wives which constitutes a problem for the women in Thraki, Northern Greece. Even in Turkey, this law was abolished in 1926.

In addition, this law does not comply with the Greek constitution which establishes the equality of Greeks regarding the application of the laws and the equality of men and women. The National Committee on the Human Rights considers that the Shariah does not protect minorities but abuses the rights and values of all the Greek Muslims.

It is also announced that the family and hereditary relations of all Greek citizens will be regulated by Greek Laws. Thus, the Mufti will only be religious leader of Greek Muslims and will no longer have judicial authorities.

Good. Sharia is a barbaric, misogynistic legal code that enshrines inequality under the law and by its nature as (supposedly) divine law stands foursquare against every principle this country was founded on.

As they might say in Athens, Συγχαρητήρια η Ελλάδα! Congratulations, Greece!

Perhaps ironically, this puts Greece ahead of our more immediate democratic forebears in Britain, where Sharia courts have started to operate apparently with official sanction, though not without controversy, and where even the Anglican Archbishop has said that some accommodation to Sharia will have to be made.

Several states in the US have made moves to ban Sharia by forbidding the courts to consider any law not based on the US and state constitutions (1) This  movement has gained steam since a (thankfully overturned) ruling by a district court in New Jersey that refused to grant a woman a restraining order against her husband because Islamic law does not recognize marital rape (2).

In this case, let’s hope the United States emulates Greece, not Great Britain.

via Big Peace

Footnotes:
(1) You would think this would be a given, but even the Supreme Court has a problem with this.
(2) Naturally, the Justice Department has threatened to oppose such laws. No, not because Obama is a “secret Muslim,” but because the Leftist lawyers there have a contempt for state legislatures and can’t resist pandering to identity politics.

Pat Condell: name the poison

June 26, 2011

Pat Condell returns and opens this video with a correction: When he mentioned in an earlier video that news from Norway had shown that 100% of the rapes in Oslo over the last five years had been committed by Muslims, he failed to distinguish between date-rape and marital rape on the one hand, and violent assault on the streets on the other. It’s this latter category that apparently is the special province of Muslims in Norway.

Having confessed that error, Condell takes out a rhetorical baseball bat and uses it to beat Islam and its Leftist apologists for the misogyny and mistreatment of women that forms a key pillar of the faith. He’s in fine form:

Condell touches on one point that’s crucial to understand a woman’s burden under Islam and Sharia: the woman must remain clothed and veiled with only the barest features showing, if at all, because the mere sight of her flesh might drive a man into uncontrollable lust. In other words, the woman is made responsible for the the man’s sexual misbehavior. One Islamic cleric infamously compared this to leaving uncovered meat out for the cat — what else could the cat do in that case, but take it?

Good Muslim women who follow the rules are inviolable, but if she breaks the rules, then she is guilty of adultery and punished — in some case by whipping. Unless, of course she can produce four male witnesses to say it was really rape, but, um… As Condell points out, who other than the rapists are likely to be witnesses?

And non-Muslim women? Whores by definition for going about uncovered and, by Muhammad’s own example, they are prizes of jihad.

Just ask the women of Oslo.

Lara Logan: “They raped me with their hands.”

April 29, 2011

CBS reporter Lara Logan was gang-raped by hundreds of Muslim men while covering the mass demonstrations in Egypt’s Tahrir Square last February. Today she recounted her experience in an article in the New York Times:

“There was a moment that everything went wrong,” she recalled.

As the cameraman, Richard Butler, was swapping out a battery, Egyptian colleagues who were accompanying the camera crew heard men nearby talking about wanting to take Ms. Logan’s pants off. She said: “Our local people with us said, ‘We’ve gotta get out of here.’ That was literally the moment the mob set on me.”

Mr. Butler, Ms. Logan’s producer, Max McClellan, and two locally hired drivers were “helpless,” Mr. Fager said, “because the mob was just so powerful.” A bodyguard who had been hired to accompany the team was able to stay with Ms. Logan for a brief period of time. “For Max to see the bodyguard come out of the pile without her, that was one of the worst parts,” Mr. Fager said. He said Ms. Logan “described how her hand was sore for days after — and the she realized it was from holding on so tight” to the bodyguard’s hand.

They estimated that they were separated from her for about 25 minutes.

“My clothes were torn to pieces,” Ms. Logan said.

She declined to go into more detail about the assault but said: “What really struck me was how merciless they were. They really enjoyed my pain and suffering. It incited them to more violence.”

A weakness of the article is its failure to address the role of Islam and Islamic law(1) in fostering attitudes and beliefs that reduce women to the status of chattels under the control of men, subject to punishment –including sexual assault– for acting in an un-Islamic manner. And, based on the example of Muhammad, who, we are told in the Qur’an, gives us a “beautiful pattern of conduct” for all time, women taken prisoner may be enjoyed and used as one would one’s property. The interview dances around the topic, hinting at it by mentioning countries and regions, but never gets to the heart of the problem. For example:

While Ms. Logan, CBS’s chief foreign affairs correspondent, said she would definitely return to Afghanistan and other conflict zones, she said she had decided — for the moment — not to report from the Middle Eastern countries where protests were widespread.

And yet Afghanistan is Islamic and a place where women are treated brutally. To say one would return to Afghanistan, but not “the Middle East” is to draw a distinction without a difference; it ignores the common thread, Islam, and its codification and sacralization of millennia-old tribal attitudes toward women.

When Logan says this shows “the oppressive role of men” in the society, she’s right, but leaving it at that is to turn a blind eye to the elephant in the room.

Another part of the article bears mentioning:

Before the assault, Ms. Logan said, she did not know about the levels of harassment and abuse that women in Egypt and other countries regularly experienced. “I would have paid more attention to it if I had had any sense of it,” she said.

Before we go any further, understand this is not a criticism of Lara Logan, but an observation regarding the parochial naiveté of the journalistic profession overall, which seems to think it can parachute into any troubled part of the world and play the role of “untouchable outside observer.” Not only do these MSM reporters seem to have only the most superficial understanding of the areas they cover, but it’s as if they think the fact that they’re journalists gives them some sort of protection against the anti-American (anti-Western, anti-Jewish, anti-women, &c., &c.) prejudices and rages rife there. While Logan’s example is by far the most horrific, CNN’s Anderson Cooper was also attacked in Tahrir Square, and the NYT’s own Lynsey Addario was sexually assaulted while covering the rebellion in Libya.

There are no “safe passes,” and women especially need to understand the situation they are walking into.

Meanwhile, it’s good to see that Logan is recovering.

(1) And before someone says “religion had nothing to do with this” or “Islam respects women,” you’re wrong.

If Islam can be reformed, it will come when women say “no more”

March 28, 2011

Women such as Veena Malik, a Pakistani entertainer who refuses to put up with some jackass mufti’s patronizing criticisms of her and instead tells him to go to Hell.

As they say, “you go, girl!”

I hope Veena has some bodyguards; she’s already received death threats from the brave knights of the religion of peace and misogyny for daring not to be a slave.

The United Nations as farce: an insult to the world’s women

March 4, 2011

A couple of days ago I provided an example of why the United Nations is useless: while the world is beset by problems around the globe, the Secretary General came to Hollywood to lobby for movies that would serve as propaganda for the alarmist side of the global warming debate. Sure, that’s worthy of a face-palm moment, but it’s not evil.

This is:

Today, Iran officially becomes a member of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women. Only three days ago, the U.N. General Assembly voted to suspend Libya’s membership on the U.N. Human Rights Council in a desperate bid to save the Council’s tattered reputation and itself.

But not a single state, including the United States, has indicated anything but smooth sailing for today’s membership of Iran on the U.N.’s top women’s rights body.

Yes, you read that right. A misogynistic Islamic (But I repeat myself) theocracy has been elected to an international board meant to promote the rights of half the world’s population.

This is how the commission describes itself:

The Commission on the Status of Women (hereafter referred to as “CSW” or “the Commission”) is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. It is the principal global policy-making body. Every year, representatives of Member States gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide.

The Commission was established by ECOSOC resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946 with the aim to prepare recommendations and reports to the Council on promoting women’s rights in political, economic, civil, social and educational fields. The Commission also makes recommendations to the Council on urgent problems requiring immediate attention in the field of women’s rights.

Emphases added.

Gee, I wonder what kind of recommendations and reports we could expect from Iran to promote the “gender equality and advancement of women?” Maybe we should look at their track record:

For the UN to agree to Iran’s membership on the Commission is beyond a joke or a farce; it is a slap in the face to all women everywhere, and especially to Iranian women, who have to suffer under this barbaric tyranny.

And, never forget, your tax dollars pay for this.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention something: Notice how the Obama administration has voiced no objection Iran’s membership? Another proud moment for the diplomacy of Hope and Change.

Lara Logan’s rape as a symbol of Islam’s “silent scandal”

February 23, 2011

“Silent scandal.” Those are the words former federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy uses to describe the miserable condition of women under Islam, in which inferiority to men is theologically sanctioned and non-Islamic women — or a Muslim woman who doesn’t behave as she should — are open targets for beatings, rape, and even death.

While horrific crimes against women occur in all parts of the world, it is only under Islam that these receive religious sanction. As McCarthy relates in “Who Attacked Lara Logan, and Why?

Tahrir Square is also the place where, in the frenzy after Hosni Mubarak’s fall, CBS news correspondent Lara Logan was seized and subjected to a savage sexual assault by an Egyptian gang. Coverage of the attack has been muted. There have been testimonials to Ms. Logan’s courage, and one anti-American leftist lost his comfortable fellowship at NYU Law School for failing to conceal his glee over the atrocity. We have heard much about the attack, but have heard next to nothing about the attackers. You are just supposed to assume it was a “mob” — the sort of thing that could have happened in any setting where raw emotion erupts, say, Wisconsin’s capitol.

Except it doesn’t happen in Madison. It happens in Egypt. It happened in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, in the riots that led to Suharto’s fall — as Sharon Lapkin recounts, human-rights groups interviewed more than 100 women who had been captured and gang raped, including many Chinese women, who were told this was their fate as non-Muslims. It happens in Muslim countries and in the Muslim enclaves of Europe and Australia, perpetrated by Islamic supremacists acting on a sense of entitlement derived from their scriptures, fueled by the rage of their jihad, and enabled by the deafening silence of the media.

As Jihad Watch director Robert Spencer has detailed, al-Azhar University endorses a sharia manual called Umdat al-Salik. It is quite clear on the subject of women who become captives of Muslim forces: “When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled.” This is so the woman can then be made a concubine of her captor.

This arrangement is encouraged by the Koran. Sura 4:23–24, for example, forbids Muslim men from consorting with the wives of other Muslims but declares sexual open season on any women these men have enslaved. (“Forbidden to you are . . . married women, except those whom you own as slaves.”) Moreover, Mohammed — whose life Muslims are exhorted by scripture to emulate — rewarded his fighters by distributing as slaves the women of the Jewish Qurazyzah tribe after Muslim forces had beheaded their husbands, fathers, and sons. The prophet himself also took one of the captured women, Rayhanna, as his concubine. And, as Spencer further notes, Mohammed directed his jihadists that they should not practice coitus interruptus with their slaves — they were encouraged to ravish them, but only in a manner that might produce Muslim offspring.

Emphases added. Be sure to read the whole thing, because McCarthy is one of the few willing to speak bluntly about this problem, rather than turn a multicultural blind eye. The sum, as he and other writers such as Ayaan Hirsi Ali have noted, is that Islamic law reduces women to a less-than-human status, encouraging such abuse, and the silence of Western liberals and leftists only abets it.

via Patrick Poole, who notes that the Umdat al-Salik, mentioned above, received a disturbing endorsement from an American imam.

Details on the assault on Lara Logan

February 21, 2011

Stripped and beaten with flag poles. Great way to celebrate your victory and do your country proud, you jackasses.

Of course, in their sick, twisted minds they thought they were justified in attacking and raping Logan, because they thought she was Jewish.

Maybe it’s time for the Ten Plagues to make a return visit.

UPDATE: More nauseating details, courtesy of Dana Loesch.

Lara Logan attacked because she was “Jewish”

February 16, 2011

In a follow up to yesterday’s nauseating story, we see two themes that are central to Islam: contempt for  women and hatred of Jews.  Tragically for Lara Logan, they came to a focus in her. From The New York Post:

“60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan was repeatedly sexually assaulted by thugs yelling, “Jew! Jew!” as she covered the chaotic fall of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo’s main square Friday, CBS and sources said yesterday.

The TV crew with Logan, who is also the network’s chief foreign correspondent, had its cameras rolling moments before she was dragged off — and caught her on tape looking tense and trying to head away from a crowd of men behind her in Tahrir Square.

“Logan was covering the jubilation . . . when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration,” CBS said in a statement. “It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy.

“In the crush of the mob, [Logan] was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers.

“She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning,” the network added. “She is currently in the hospital recovering.”

A network source told The Post that her attackers were screaming, “Jew! Jew!” during the assault. And the day before, Logan had told Esquire.com that Egyptian soldiers hassling her and her crew had accused them of “being Israeli spies.” Logan is not Jewish.

Her real religious affiliation, if any, is immaterial. Logan had become the embodiment of the paranoia and conspiracy-mongering in a society that can take seriously claims that Israel has trained sharks to attack Muslims or is sending AIDs-carrying women to Egypt. And Jews have been the declared (by Muslims) enemies of Islam since the days of Muhammad, the invocation of the Muslim massacre of the Jews at Khaybar being a rallying cry to this day. Indeed, the Muslim version of the anti-Christ will be born of a Jew and lead an army of Jews. Thus calling Logan a Jew, as well has her “immodest behavior,” justified her rape. If she had just worn a niqab and stayed in her room like a proper woman… .

But don’t you dare say Islam isn’t tolerant or doesn’t respect women.

via Jihad Watch

UPDATE: The Washington Post reports that Logan is home with her family and adds this chilling note:

When Logan returned Saturday to the United States, she was described as being in shock and not speaking, the source added.

Poor woman. To think what she and her family are going through right now.

CBS reporter sexually assaulted in Egypt

February 15, 2011

By a gang of around 200:

On Friday, Feb. 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes” story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

While I have nothing but praise for the women and soldiers who rescued Logan, this attack is a direct result of a religion and a culture that treats women as no better than chattel, as property to be used whenever a man wants. Look at the picture at the link: Logan’s hair was uncovered. She was probably regarded as a whore, “uncovered meat,”  and treated as one.

Don’t ever, ever try to tell me again that Islam respects women. You won’t like my response.

And here’s wishing Ms. Logan well in her recovery.

Saudi Arabia: rape victim to be whipped

January 8, 2011

In civilized countries, such as the United States or any other Western liberal democracy, a woman who was gang-raped would be given medical care and whatever therapy she needed to recover. If her attackers were captured, she’d have the right to testify against them in open court and see them punished.

Remember, we’re talking about civilized countries.

In the Islamic police state of Saudi Arabia, however, which is governed by the totalitarian Sharia code of religious law and which treats women as little better than a man’s property, that same rape victim gets sent to jail and given 100 lashes:

A 23-year-old unmarried woman was awarded one-year prison term and 100 lashes for committing adultery and trying to abort the resultant fetus.

The District Court in Jeddah pronounced the verdict on Saturday after the girl confessed that she had a forced sexual intercourse with a man who had offered her a ride. The man, the girl confessed, took her to a rest house, east of Jeddah, where he and four of friends assaulted her all night long.

But, let’s not be too harsh. The court did, after all, postpone her whipping until after the baby was born. See? They really do have a heart! And, hey, she confessed!

It says a lot about a society in which the victim is the one who “confesses.”

Bear in mind that this same religious legal code is what al Qaeda and other jihadist groups want to impose on us by force, and that Muslim Brotherhood front-groups such as CAIR, ICNA, and ISNA want to bring to the West through a cultural jihad — with Saudi support.

Women in the West have much to look forward to.

Brave Knights of Allah hide behind women

December 31, 2010

But then, women are little better than chattel in Islam, so why not use them as living bombs?

The Taliban and al Qaeda have established female suicide bombing cells in remote areas of northwestern Pakistan and northeastern Afghanistan. The female suicide bombers have struck in both Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The existence of the cells, which appeared evident after female suicide bombers attacked twice over the past five months in Afghanistan and Pakistan, was confirmed by a 12-year-old Pakistani girl named Meena Gul.

Gul, who said she was trained to be a “human bomb,” was detained by Pakistani police in the Munda area in Pakistan’s northwestern district of Dir, according to the Times of India.

“Gul said that women suicide bombers were trained for their deadly task in small cells on both sides of the porous border and were dispatched to their missions with a sermon, ‘God will reward you with a place in heaven.’”

Oh, and did I mention some of the women are just girls? Yes, for the valiant jihadi, it’s women and children first. Preferably in the same person.

A long time ago, someone explained to me the First Rule of Texas Common Law: “He needed killing.”

Well, these barbarians need killing.

In Islam, marriage is a contract for pleasure, so there can be no rape

December 9, 2010

See, the husband isn’t raping her if he forces her into sex against her will, he’s just enforcing the terms of the contract. You know, like making some vendor deliver the goods you paid for. Yeah, that’s it! The good Islamic husband is just making her deliver the goods.

But don’t take my word for it; just ask the honored Egyptian Islamic cleric, Yousuf al-Badri:

From the MEMRI transcript:

Interviewer: What if it is against her will, using violence?

Yousuf Al-Badri: According to the hadith, if a husband summons his wife and she refuses – she incurs the wrath of God in Heaven when she’s asleep. The husband is not allowed to rape her, but she incurs the wrath of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad said that she must come to him even if she is baking by the stove or riding a horse.

[...]

Interviewer: A marriage of contract is not a deed of ownership, in which the woman relinquishes her honor, her mind, and so on.

Yousuf Al-Badri: This talk about honor is a new thing. We never heard of it until these days. If a woman is at home with her husband, and she is his companion and runs the household, and he asks her to give him food, drink, and so on – how can we possibly consider it rape when he derives pleasure from her, even if she doesn’t feel like it, of if she abhors it… How can we possibly consider it a kind of what is called “rape”? This is not true.

Interviewer: She’s his wife! Do you justify beatings or sadistic behavior?

Yousuf Al-Badri: Islam forbids beating unless it is done with a stick – a stick the size of a pencil or a toothpick.

Are we clear, now, ladies? A Muslim wife who breaks the pleasure contract incurs Allah’s anger and can get beaten with a stick. And then, if he enforces the contract, it isn’t rape.

Glad we’re all on the same page, now.

PREVIOUSLY: We’ve heard this “It’s not rape-rape* inside marriage” argument before, from American and British Muslim clerical groups.

PS: The interview was conducted on the BBC’s Arabic channel, and I was glad to see the interviewer challenge this schmuck on his medieval misogyny, unlike the Egyptian interviewer who looked like he was excited to hear the good news that he could honor his wife by beating her.

*On a related note, thank you, Whoopi Goldberg, for demonstrating once and for all just how stupid and morally bankrupt you are.

The United Nations: a sick joke

November 12, 2010

Would you like (yet another) example of why the United Nations is worthless? Well, here ya go, pal. Saudi Arabia has joined the executive board of the new United Nations organization on the rights of women. No, I’m serious. It seems Iran was beyond the pale, but Saudi Arabia was a-okay by the UN’s high standards. I guess the difference must be that, in Iran, they still stone women to death, but, in the enlightened heart of Islam, they’re merely whipped and sent to jail for the crime of being victims of a gang-rape. That obviously qualifies the Saudis to oversee the rights of women around the world

At least, to anyone who understands George Orwell.

If a beating is an honor, what is a stoning?

September 26, 2010

Yesterday I wrote about an Egyptian Muslim cleric who told us that the beating of women was instituted by Allah to honor women.

If that’s “honoring,” then stoning must be the equivalent of a gold medal:

Rare Video Shows Taliban Allegedly Stoning Woman to Death in Pakistan

A rare video reportedly smuggled out of northwest Pakistan allegedly shows a woman being stoned to death by Taliban militants in the upper region of Orakzai.

Al Aan, a Dubai-based pan-Arab television channel that focuses on women’s issues, said it had obtained cellphone footage that it says shows a woman being executed because she was seen out with a man. The killing reportedly took place two months ago and was smuggled out by a Taliban member who attended the stoning, according to Al Aan. ABC News could not independently confirm the cellphone video’s authenticity.

The video, which seems to show a woman tethered to the ground as a group of men throw stones at her, is so graphic that ABC News cannot show it in its entirety. Parts of it air today on the 25th episode of “Brian Ross Investigates.”

“It’s difficult to know where and when it was shot,” says Gayle Lemmon, deputy director of the Women and Foreign Policy Program at the Council of Foreign Relations, in an interview with Ross, “It is consistent with videos that have been coming from Taliban-controlled areas since the ’90s.”

Lemmon says that when women “stray outside the line” in Taliban-controlled areas, they may “face severe punishment.”

“Women are respected as carriers of the family honor,” says Lemmon, “but they also pay the price.”

If that’s respect…

Lemmon’s last statement is nonsense, of course, as I pointed out yesterday. They aren’t respected, except perhaps in the perverse sense of “if you dress a certain way and accept a man as your keeper, you won’t get raped.” Otherwise, according to Sheikh al-Hilali, she can expect to be treated like meat left out for the cat. Some respect.

Rather, what happens to the woman in the video is a consequence of women being made to bear the burden of the man’s sexual behavior. The victim in the video was seen walking with a man, presumably not of her family. Doesn’t she know what might have happened, since a man cannot control himself? That made her a whore and dishonored her family, and so she had to die by being pelted with rocks.

Respect. Honor.

Like Hell.

LINKS: Jihad Watch has the full video (Fair warning, it’s very graphic) and also provides links that debunk apologists who claim stoning is not a canonical part of Islam.

In Islam, a man beats his wife to honor her

September 25, 2010

Don’t look at me like that. I’m just repeating the words of the honored Egyptian cleric, Sa’d Arafat. Beatings were instituted by Allah to honor wives:

And I just love the look on the interviewer’s face, as if he’s hearing this marvelous revelation: “Oh, I get it! It’s okay for me to beat her if she denies me sex! It’s all so clear now!”

From the transcript:

Sa’d Arafat: Allah honored wives by instating the punishment of beatings.

Interviewer: Honored them with beatings? How is this possible?!

Sa’d Arafat: The prophet Muhammad said: “Don’t beat her in the face, and do not make her ugly.” See how she is honored. If the husband beats his wife, he must not beat her in the face. Even when he beats her, he must not curse her. This is incredible! He beats her in order to discipline her.

In addition, there must not be more than ten beatings, and he must not break her bones, injure her, break her teeth, or poke her in the eye. There is a beating etiquette. If he beats to discipline her, he must not raise his hand high. He must beat her from chest level. All these things honor the woman.

Understand, guys? There are rules to wife-beating. We must observe the proprieties. And just so we’re clear about the “when” part:

Sa’d Arafat: The honoring of the wife in Islam is also evident in the fact that the punishment of beating is permissible in one case only: when she refuses to sleep with him.

Interviewer: When she refuses to sleep with him?

Sa’d Arafat: Yes, because where else could the husband go? He wants her, but she refuses. He should begin with admonishment and threats…

Interviewer: Allow me to repeat this. A man cannot beat his wife…

Interviewer: …over food or drink. Beatings are permitted only in this case, which the husband cannot do without.

Note the logic here: a man must have sex, he cannot go without it. The woman, by refusing him, is denying her husband something he must have and is therefore in need of discipline – a beating. This illustrates something Ayaan Hirsi Ali has repeatedly pointed out in her books: that Islam makes the woman responsible for the sexual behavior of the man. He can’t control himself, so why is she hurting him by withholding something he needs? The same perverse reasoning is used to justify the whole structure of the oppression of women in Islam, from restrictive, dehumanizing dress codes to the punishment of rape victims.

Somehow, I think this is the kind of “honor” women would rather do without.

UPDATE: Thanks for the links, Lori!

In addition, there must not be more than ten beatings, and he must not break her bones, injure her, break her teeth, or poke her in the eye. There is a beating etiquette. If he beats to discipline her, he must not raise his hand high. He must beat her from chest level. All these things honor the woman.

She is in need of discipline. How should the husband discipline her? Through admonishment. If she is not deterred, he should refuse to share the bed with her. If she is not repentant, he should beat her, but there are rules to the beating. It is forbidden to beat her in the face or make her ugly. When you beat her, you must not curse her. Islam forbids this.

Islamic scholar: Beat your wife, but only lightly

June 26, 2010

Another entry for the Islamic Misogyny Watch: Muslim Indian “scholar” Zakir Naik instructs his listeners about why they should beat their wives. But, it’s okay, since he tells them to do it lightly and not leave a mark:

I’m sure Muslim wives will be comforted by that.

The invaluable Middle East Media Research Institute has a profile of Dr. Naik. Did you know this charming fellow has been banned from Britain and Canada for glorifying terrorism?

This week it was announced that Indian cleric Dr. Zakir Naik, a popular Salafi television preacher, was banned from entering both the U.K. and Canada.

On June 18, 2010, British Home Secretary Theresa May stated that Dr. Naik, who heads the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), was barred from entering the U.K. under laws that can exclude anyone who “foments, justifies, or glorifies terrorist violence,”and that upcoming events with him, planned for the week of June 25 at stadiums in Wembley, Birmingham and Sheffield, were cancelled. Secretary May explained, “Numerous comments made by Dr. Naik are evidence to me of his unacceptable behavior,” and added, “I am not willing to allow those who might not be conducive to the public good to enter the U.K.”

Within a week of the U.K. government ban, Canada announced that it too was barring Naik from entering its territory. Naik had planned to be keynote speaker at a conference in Toronto, chaired by Saed Rageah. Regeah is imam of the Toronto mosque that made news last fall when a group of its young members joined the Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant Somali group Al-Shabab Al-Mujahideen.

Do read it all. MEMRI has more of Dr. Naik’s greatest hits on video. Be sure to watch as he asserts that it was really George W. Bush who carried out the September 11th attacks. (Free registration required.) Such a charming fellow. Always smiling.

Even while he’s beating his wife, I’m sure.

A tremendous insult to women

April 29, 2010

I know it shouldn’t, but this just leaves me flabbergasted: the UN has elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women:

Without fanfare, the United Nations this week elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women, handing a four-year seat on the influential human rights body to a theocratic state in which stoning is enshrined in law and lashings are required for women judged “immodest.”

Just days after Iran abandoned a high-profile bid for a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council, it began a covert campaign to claim a seat on the Commission on the Status of Women, which is “dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women,” according to its website.

Buried 2,000 words deep in a U.N. press release distributed Wednesday on the filling of “vacancies in subsidiary bodies,” was the stark announcement: Iran, along with representatives from 10 other nations, was “elected by acclamation,” meaning that no open vote was requested or required by any member states — including the United States.

No state that implements sharia law should be anywhere near anything resembling a human rights body, especially one concerned with women. Iran is one of the worst. Women are brutally repressed in Iran: they face death by stoning; their political and legal rights are severely restricted; they face rape in prison by government officials; and they are even gunned down in the streets.

And almost as appalling is that the United States didn’t speak out against this travesty. Yet another glorious moment in the history of Smart Power.

UPDATE: Allahpundit quotes this at the Hot Air link, but it’s worth posting here, too. Jennifer Rubin on Obama’s pusillanimous diplomacy:

The U.S. couldn’t muster a word of opposition — not even call for a vote. That would be because . . . why? Because our policy is not to confront and challenge the brutal regime for which rape and discrimination are institutionalized policies. No, rather, we are in the business of trying to ingratiate ourselves, and making the U.S. as inoffensive as possible to the world’s thugocracies.

Suntans cause earthquakes, too?

April 28, 2010

Well, the connection hasn’t been drawn directly, but it can’t be far off; Iran has announced it will begin arresting women for being suntanned:

Suntanned women to be arrested under Islamic dress code

Iran has warned suntanned women and girls who looked like “walking mannequins” will be arrested as part of a new drive to enforce the Islamic dress code.

Brig Hossien Sajedinia, Tehran’s police chief, said a national crackdown on opposition sympathisers would be extended to women who have been deemed to be violating the spirit of Islamic laws. He said: “The public expects us to act firmly and swiftly if we see any social misbehaviour by women, and men, who defy our Islamic values. In some areas of north Tehran we can see many suntanned women and young girls who look like walking mannequins.

“We are not going to tolerate this situation and will first warn those found in this manner and then arrest and imprison them.”

Just think: tanning salons in Iran could be their version of Prohibition-era speakeasies: “Psst! Hey, bud! You know where a girl can get a good tan in this town?”

All kidding aside, this is another, albeit small, example of Islamic misogyny and how the woman is made responsible for the man’s sexual behavior.

Religion of misogyny and child-abuse

April 10, 2010

Two items in the news: In Australia, a Muslim man strangled his Muslim wife to death for being too Australian:

A man who killed his wife by using her veil to strangle her in their Melbourne home did so in the belief he was entitled to dominate her, a Supreme Court judge has found.

Soltan Azizi was today sentenced to 22 years’ jail by Justice Betty King, who said the Afghani refugee had been physically abusive towards Marzieh Rahimi throughout their 14-year marriage.

Justice King said Ms Rahimi had sought help from social workers and was intending to leave Azizi, despite him warning that he would kill her if she tried.

She said Azizi had complained to Ms Rahimi’s sister in the days prior to her killing that his wife was becoming “too Australian”, meaning “she was not a docile and good wife in the terms you expected her to be”.

“It is clear you were unable to accept that your wife had rights, which rights included the ability to leave you if that was what she desired,” Justice King said.

“… Her death clearly resulted because of your belief that you were entitled to dominate and dictate to your wife what she could and could not do.”

Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch points out that honor killings like the above keep happening because Islamic teachings excuse and even encourage them.

Meanwhile, in Iraq, police stopped a ten-year old boy before he could turn himself into a suicide bomber:

A 10-year-old Iraqi boy allegedly recruited by al-Qaeda was about to blow himself in a suicide attack on Wednesday just east of Fallujah when police spotted and arrested him, a senior officer said.

The incident occurred near a police checkpoint in Amariyat Al-Fallujah, a village 15km east of the former Sunni rebel bastion of Fallujah and due west of Baghdad, said Captain Anas al-Issawi.

“The 10-year-old boy had been used by al-Qaeda in the past to place bombs,” Issawi said, adding that the child disappeared from his family home in Amariyat Al-Fallujah four days ago.

“Three men aboard a van drove him to the isolated village of Shitsher (75km west of Baghdad) to prepare him for the suicide operation,” the officer said, quoting the boy’s own testimony.

On Wednesday morning the men helped the boy don an explosives-rigged vest under the traditional dishdasha (long robe) and drove him at dawn to the outskirts of Amariyat Al-Fallujah.

They instructed him to blow himself up as soon as the place began milling with people, the officer said, quoting the boy’s testimony.

Congratulations to the IP for rescuing the boy. This disgusting manipulation of children by these brave, brave mujaheddin is all too common. (via The Jawa Report)
