No wonder they call him ‘moonbeam’ – California Governor Jerry Brown claims Global Warming causes extreme cold

March 23, 2015

Ah, I wish we knew what sin we had committed as a state to deserve a governor like Jerry. Scary thing is, for those who don’t know California, is that he’s one of the sane(r) Democrats in Sacramento.

Watts Up With That?

Remember this eye roller from Brown where he claimed LAX was at risk from sea level rise, only to have to walkback the claim the next day after it was pointed out on WUWT that LAX is well above sea level?

Brown_LAX_SLR He’s at it again. Eric Worrall writes:

California Governor Jerry Brown has declared senator Ted Cruz is “unfit for office”, because Cruz doesn’t believe that global warming is the cause of the extreme cold in America’s North East.

According to CNN;

“What he said is absolutely false,” Brown said. “Over 90% of the scientists who deal with climate are absolutely convinced that the humans’ activity, industrial activity … are building up in the atmosphere, they’re heat trapping, and they’re causing not just one drought in California but severe storms and cold on the East Coast.”

Schadenfreude is oh-so sweet

March 21, 2011

For years I had to watch while the Kook Left slammed George W. Bush again and again over Iraq. While that was annoying, it was expected; they aren’t called “moonbats” for nothing. But what made it maddening was the cynical exploitation of said kooks by the Democratic party, the leaders of which put their short-term electoral fortunes ahead of the nation’s interests in a time of war. Foremost among them was one Senator Barack H. Obama, who said:

The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.

As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States. In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action.

My, how time flies. Just four short years later, and now-President Obama has launched his own war in Libya. Sure, he got the permission of the UN Security Council and the agreement of the international community (all bow), which is all that really matters to a progressive transnationalist, but he forgot that little part about honoring the Constitution and obtaining the “informed consent of Congress.” And that has the moonbats meeping and gibbering in outrage.

I love it:

A hard-core group of liberal House Democrats is questioning the constitutionality of U.S. missile strikes against Libya, with one lawmaker raising the prospect of impeachment during a Democratic Caucus conference call on Saturday.

Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Donna Edwards (Md.), Mike Capuano (Mass.), Dennis Kucinich (Ohio), Maxine Waters (Calif.), Rob Andrews (N.J.), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Barbara Lee (Calif.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.) “all strongly raised objections to the constitutionality of the president’s actions” during that call, said two Democratic lawmakers who took part.

Kucinich, who wanted to bring impeachment articles against both former President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney over Iraq — only to be blocked by his own leadership — asked why the U.S. missile strikes aren’t impeachable offenses.

Kucinich also questioned why Democratic leaders didn’t object when President Barack Obama told them of his plan for American participation in enforcing the Libyan no-fly zone during a White House Situation Room meeting on Friday, sources told POLITICO.

And liberals fumed that Congress hadn’t been formally consulted before the attack and expressed concern that it would lead to a third U.S. war in the Muslim world.

While other Democratic lawmakers have publicly backed Obama — including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and top members of the Armed Services, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees — the objections from a vocal group of anti-war Democrats on Capitol Hill could become a political problem for Obama, especially if “Operation Odyssey Dawn” fails to topple Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, leads to significant American casualties, or provokes a wider conflict in the troubled region of North Africa.

So now the Kook Left*, which the Democratic leadership wielded like a baseball bat to bludgeon Bush, has turned on… the Democratic leadership.

Why yes, I believe I will have another helping of schadenfreude, thanks. It’s delicious!

Jerry Brown is either a fool or a swine

August 21, 2010

I’m old enough to remember when Jerry Brown was last governor of California. I can’t say much about his term of office, though, because I was in college and not paying much attention to state politics at the time. My impression, though, was that, his personal eccentricities aside, he was mostly a standard issue California liberal: support for government solutions in preference to the private sector, a strong alliance with labor unions, and a willingness to hike taxes. On the plus side, though he opposed Proposition 13, which limited property taxes, once it passed, he worked within its limits and actually cut state spending. So, a generally center-left record, albeit pragmatic.

As Mayor of Oakland he continued to chart a pragmatic course, seeking to lure businesses to the city and trying to revitalize the downtown area. He even invited the Marines to hold wargames at the closed US Army base in Oakland. You can imagine how that was greeted by the local Lefties.

Leaving Oakland, he ran for and won election as Attorney General, though everyone knew this was just a stepping stone back to the governor’s office. And, indeed, his policies drifted more and more back toward those that would please the Left. For example, he tried desperately to ignore the scandals surrounding ACORN. When that was impossible, his investigation found they had broken no laws. On the other hand, he was eager to investigate Sarah Palin’s appearance at Cal State Stanislaus. That, too, turned up no law-breaking. Overall, the Competitive Enterprise Institute rated Brown as one of the worst state attorney generals in the nation (PDF)

Now it appears that transformation from the pragmatic Center-Left to full-blown tool is complete. Fearful that he hasn’t the money to compete with Republican nominee Meg Whitman, Brown has sunk to prostituting and prostrating himself before the most vile hard-Left, anti-American groups in the state. Tonight, just a couple of miles from Public Secrets Global HQ, Jerry is the guest of honor at a fundraiser at the home of Jodie Evans, one of the heads of Code Pink:

Brown fan Jodie Evans between Cindy Sheehan and Hugo Chavez

Many of the Los Angeles glitterati will be there, too, at the home of a Hamas supporter. Evans and her crew even once told a mother whose Navy son was killed in Iraq that her boy deserved to die “for being stupid enough to go there.”

A serious candidate for Governor of the State of California is taking money from these pigs? Bear in mind that the “once and future” Governor Brown would be commander in chief of California’s National Guard and that, to date, 599 Californians, Guardsmen and regulars, have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

And you’re letting a group that admires dictators and terrorists and spits on grieving mothers host a party for you, Mr. Attorney General?

So, which is it, Jerry? Fool or swine? Or is it that we know what you are and, after tonight, we’ll know the price?

UPDATE: Code Pink got a taste of its own medicine last night. Hah!
